To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RALPH citizen of the United States, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Fuse-Plug, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that variety of fuse plug which it is the present general practice to employ in incandescent electric lighting circuits to prevent any ignorant or accidental overloading thereof.
As is well known, such construction comprises a socket with the bottom and side of which the circuit is connected, and into which screws the fuse plug comprising a means for contacting the bottom and side terminals of the socket and a connecting member between the contracting means of readily fusible metal which will fuse and break the circuit should it become overloaded.
The object ofmy invention is to provide such a fuse plug in a simple and economical construction which will have a number of fuses which may be successively brought into operation instead of having to replace the entire plug when a fuse is blown.

The plug comprises a piece of suitable insulating material such as porcelain or vulcanite of a cylindrical form formed with the reduced portion, 1, to extend into the socket. and the enlarged end portion, The end of theportion, 1, is suitably recessed at 3, to receive a disk or plate, 4, to which the fuse elements are soldered. It is also centrally recessed at 5 to receive the screw, 6,, and nut, '7, which secures an additional metallic washer, 8, against the disk or plate, 4, so as to hold the disk, 4, firmly in position and also insure a good contacting portion for the bottom terminal of the socket (not shown). The upper portion of the central recess, is filled with a suitable sealing and insulating material, 9, when the bolt 6, and nut 7, are in position.
and a resident- The face of the enlarged end, 2, is recessed to form the rim,- 10, and annular shoulder, 11, and below the shoulder are formed a plurality of segmental chambers 12. Through the bottoms of the chambers, 12, are provided round openings 13, the continuatio-ns of which form the semi-circular channels 14, in the portion, 1, of the plug clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
Secured to the bottoms of the 12, by means of screws, 15, are plates, 16, having bored ends, 17, the bored portions of which register with the openings 13. Channels, 18, are provided which extend from the bottom of each chamber 12, near the plate, 16, to the edge of the disk or plate, 4, and through these channels extend the fuse wires, 19, the ends of which are soldered respectively to the disk 4 and to the respective plates 16.
About the outside of the reduced portion, 1, of the plug is a metallic cylinder, 20, in which has been spun a thread, 21, so as to screw into the socket (not shown) and con tact with the side terminal of said socket. To the upper edge of the cylinder, 20, is socured the stud, 22, which is proportioned to lie partially in a semi-circular channel, 14, and extend upwardly into the opening, 13, in the bottom of the chamber 12. The stud, 22, is bored and threaded to receive a screw, 23, passing down through the bored ends, 17, of the plate, 16, thereby performing the double purpose of holding the cylinder, 20, in position and making connection between it and the fuse, Within the rim, 10, and upon the annular shoulder, 11, is a cover disk, 24, of mica or other suitable material held in position by the spring clip, 25, the ends of which extend through holes bored in the rim for that purpose. But one screw, 23, being employed at a time it will be seen that connection will be made through the plug by only one fuse wire at a time, and when the fuse in use is blown another fuse may be easily brought into use by removing the cover, 24, removing the screw 23, which will permit the withdrawal of the insulating block from the cylinder, 20. The insulating block is then turned so as to cause the stud, 22, to project into the opening, 13, of a different chamber, the screw'23 ,is again inserted and a new fuse is in circuit.
Having described my invention what I chambers,
