WARREN H. WORST, OF FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA.
SASH-CORD FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 2, 1913.
Application filed August 30, 1912. Serial No. 717,851.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, \VARREN H. Wons'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fargo, in the county of Cass and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and useful Sash-Cord Fastener; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful sash cord fastener.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved sash cord fastener for detach ably securing the cord to a swinging slidable window sash.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings :--Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a window frame in eluding the usual upper and lower sashes in elevation, showing the lower sash swung inwardly in full lines and the upper sash swung inwardly in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail sectional view through a portion of the window frame and a portion of one of the sash frames, showing the manner in which sash cord is detachably connected to the sash frame. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view through a portion of the window frame, showing how the sash cord is locked to a plate of the window frame, when the sash is swung inwardly. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of a portion of one of the sash frames and a trough plate detachably locked to a portion of the window frame for holding the sash cord thereto, until the cam member of the sash frame unlocks it.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates a window frame of the usual construction hav; ing upper and lower sashes and provided with pulleys 41 and 5, over which the sash cords 6 and 7 travel. The window frame is provided with stop strips 8, the lower sections of which between the junctions 9 and 10 are removable. The lower sections of the stop strips are designated by the numeral 11. The window frame is constructed with a slot 12 to receive the parting strips 13, the lower sections 1 1 of which between the unetions 15 and 16 are removable, so as to permit the upper sash, when down sufficiently, to be swung inwardly.
Secured to the window frame and extending transversely of the slots 17 are plates 18, one upon each side of each parting strip,
Z there being, however, only one parting strip shown. The sash cords at one end of each,
are provided with weights 1!), while their other ends are connected at 20 to the troughshaped elongated plates 21, which slide in the slots 17. Secured in each of the plates 21 is a lock spring 22, the angle nose 23 of which extends through a slot 24L of the plate 21, so as to engage under the plate 18, so as to hold the sash cord down, when the sash swung inwardly. Carried by the troughshaped plates 21 are pins 25, 011 which antifrietional roller sleeves 26 are mounted. Pivoted in transverse slots of the plates 21 immediately below the roller sleeves are angle members 27, the portions 28 of which are adapted to engage the lock springs, to disconnect the noses from under the plates 18, when the portions 29 of the angle members 27 are thrown toward the roller sleeves. The transverse slots are designated by the numeral 30. The portions 29 of the angle members 27 are of a contour to conform to the roller sleeves. Upon each side of each sash frame is a U-shaped plate 31 having cam sides 32. \Vhen the sash frames are arranged in vertical positions the portions 29 and the roller sleeves are between the cam sides 32, thereby connecting the U-shaped plates 21 to the sash frame, so that the cords and the plates 21 will move with the sash frame, as they are raised and lowered. However, as each sash frame is swung inwardly, each portion 29 of the angle members 27 drop downwardly from each roller sleeve, thereby allowing the nose 23 of each lock spring to engage under its respective plate 18.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is A device for detachably securing window cords to a swinging slidable window sash comprising in combination, a plate anchored transversely of a sash groove of a window frame, a U-shaped plate having cam sides embedded in the sash, a trough-shaped member connected to a sash cord and provided with a roller to engage between the cam sides of said U-shaped plate, said trough-shaped member having a pair of slots one immediately adjacent the roller, while the other is spaced a short distance below, a locking spring attached at onc'end in the upper portion of the trough-shaped member and prochored in the slot adjacent said roller and adapted to be held against the rollerWhen the same is between the cam sides of the U-shaped plate, said loosely anchored member having an angled end adapted to engage the locking spring tion from its slot. In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
