To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ARTHUR Tnsvon DAWSON, knight, and GEORGE THOMAs BUCK- HAM, both subjects of th'e King of Great Britain, residing at 32 Victoria street, West.-

minster, in the eountyof London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Pedestal Gun- Mountings,ro'f which the following is a Specification.

This invention relates to pedestal gun mountings of the kind in which there 'is provided aclamping device comprising a furnished with suitable means whereby it can readily either be tightened against the training worm wheel to hold it rigid with the pedestal, or can be slakened so that relative movement can take place between the said worm wheel and the pedestal and the gun be thus rendered capable of being moved rapidly through large training angles. According to the present invention we so construct a pedestal mounting of the above stated kind that the clamping band is arranged inside the pedestal instead of outside asheretofore. The said band is adapted to be operated by a handle or the like arranged externally with regard to thepedest-al. The training worm wheel with whichthe clamping band ooperates may be provided with a boss which is disposed between the pedestal and the center pivot of the gun. By reason of this arrangement tli'e clamping band is effectively protected by the pedestal from injury resulting from blows and the influence of the weather'. Q

In order that the said invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into effect we will describe the same more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings, in whichz- Figure l is a. sectional elevation and Fig. 2 a horizontal section taken approximately on the line 11 of Fig. 1, showing a constructional form of the invention.

The free ends of the said band are provided With' strips C2, C2* having` lugs 0"', c" through'which and through the pedestal` passes a horizontally arranged bolt D. The said bolt may be reduced in diameter shown in Fig. 2 toform a 'shoulder (l which bea-rs against the lug c2. The said bolt may be provided with a key d which engages in a corresponding key-way in the lug c2. One end of the said bolt is formed with a knuded head Z2 which projects beyond the face of the destal and providesfor the ready withiiawal of the bolt D when required. The other end is screwthreaded to receive an internally screw threaded sleeve (if, lo the outer end of which an actuating handle or lever Dx is attached, the said handle o r lever being situated outside the pedestal as shown. The bolt D and the screw 'threaded sleeve d* are supported in bearings E, the latter being secured to the pedestal. The angular movement of the said handle or lever Dxbin one direction causes the lugs C. c to move toward each other to tighten the clamping band C on the boss B', and in the other direction allows them to separate so as to slacken -the said band from the boss.

What we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 'of the United States is 1. In a gun mounting, the combination with the pedestal and the training` worin wheel, of a. clamping band engaging with the said worm wheel and arranged inside the pedestal, and means arranged taugen tially to said band and carried by the pedestal for tightening and slackening the said clamping band with respect to the lworin wheel.

2. In a gun mounting, the combination with .the pedestal and the training worm wheel, of a boss on the said worm wheei, a clamping band engaging with the said boss 'and arranged inside the pedestal, and means arranged tungentinlly to said band and cany riedy by the pedestal tor tightening and slnckeningr the said clmupin;r band with respent to the boss. y,
