To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, 'HENRYK Konxmwloz, factory manager, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Wolchowskoi Per 4, St. Petersburg, Russia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Taking off Single Strips from Piles of Paper Strips; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to apparatus for taking off single paper strips of sheets from a pile and feeding them to other operative partsin machines in which paper is dealt with in separate sheets, such as printing, ruling or pasting machines.
According to the present invention a piercing separator-is arranged beneath the pile of paper on top of which is placed a suspended hinged pressure bar pressing on the said pile at two places, just above the piercing knife and just above the feeding cam, in such manner that the end exerting pressure above the piercing knife remains constantly on top of the pile and the end pressing above the feeding cam is automatically dropped on the pile every time the feeding cam touches the paper pile from underneath and feeds the lowest sheet or strip forward, and is automatically raised from the pile as soon as the next operative part of the machine takes hold of the forward end of the strip and the rear end thereof is cut through by the piercing knife. This pressure relieving device is of especial importance in allcases where thin or limp paper is dealt with which would otherwise be exposed to the risk of tearing during its removal from the pile.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of the mechanism, Fig. 2 is a similar section with the pressure bar and feeding cam in another position, and Fig. 3 is a vertical cross sec- 0!? an inclined knife 6 (see Figs. 1 a

The lockplate a and the pin t, are carried by the upwardly extending arm a of the rocking lever 1', which is moved up and down by means of the cam 0. On the downward movement of the lever 1', the lockplate it strikes the projection w of the container and is thereby raised, thus releasin the rod is, and the pressure bar 0 is allowed to fall and rest on top of the paper pile. On the upward movement of the lever r, the lockplate a ams the rev 70 and the pressure bar a is raised. This raising and falling of the pressure bar 0 relates only to that end of it wh1ch is over the feeding cam h the other end resting the whole time on the paper pile.
Having nowdescribed my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A paper separating and feeding chine of the kind described, comprising in combination a feeding cam, an inclined knife sheet separator, both arranged beneath the stack or pile, a hinged pressure bar, means for suspending said pressure bar over the stack so that one of its ends constantly presses on the pile above the knife sheet separator, means for automatically dropping the other end of the pressure bar while the lowermost sheet is being engaged and separated from the pile, and means for automatically raising the said end of the pressure bar as soon as the next operative part of the machine has gripped the forward end of the separated sheet.
2. A paper separating and feeding chine of the kind described comprislng in combination a feeding cal-n arranged at one end of and beneath the stack or pile, an in clined knife sheet separator arranged at the other end of and beneath the stack or pile, a hinged pressure bar, means for suspending said pressure bar over the stack so that one of its ends constantly presses on the pile above the knife sheet se arator, means for automatically dropping t e other end of the pressure bar While the lowermost sheet is being engaged and separated from the pile, and means for automatically raising the said end of the pressure bar as soon as the next operative part of the machine has gripped the forward end of the separated sheet.

A paper separating and feeding machine of the kind described comprising in combination a feeding cam, an incllned knife sheet separator, both arranged beneath the stack or pile, a hinged pressure bar suspended over the stack in such a manner that one of its ends constantly presses on the pile above the knife sheet separator, a friction locking device for retaining the other end of the pressure bar in a raised position, means for releasing the locking device for the purpose of dropping the said end of the pressure bar while the lowermost sheet is being engaged and separated from the pile, and means for automatically raising said end of the pressure bar as soon as the next operative part of the machine has gripped the forward end of the separated sheet.
4. A paper separating and feeding machine of the kind described comprising in combination a feeding cam arranged at one end of and beneath the stack or pile, an inclined knife sheet separator arranged at the other end of and beneath the stack or pile,
a hinged pressure bar suspended over the stack in such a manner that one of its ends constantly presses on the pile above the knife sheet separator, a friction locking device for retaining the other end of the pressure bar in a raised position, means for releasing-the locking device for the purpose 'of dropping the said end of the pressure bar while the lowermost sheet is being engaged and separated from the pile, and means for automatically raising said end of the pressure bar as soon as the next operative part of the machine has gripped the forward end of the separated sheet.

A paper separating and feeding machine of the kind described comprising in combination a feeding cam, an inclined knife sheet separator, both arranged beneath the stack or pile, a hinged pressure bar suspended over the stack in such a manner that one of its ends constantly presses on the pile above the knife sheet separator, a friction locking device for retaining the other end of the presure bar in a raised position, means for operatin the friction locking device, means for r e leasing the locking device for the purpose of dropping the said end of the pressure bar while the lowermost sheet is being engaged and separated from the pile, and means for automatically raising said end of the pressure bar as soon as the next operative part of the machine has gripped the forward end of the separated sheet.

A paper separating and feeding machine of the kind described comprising in combination a feeding cam, an inclined knife sheet separator, both arranged beneath the stack or pile, a hinged pressure bar suspended over the stack in such a manner that one of its ends constantly presses on the pile above the knife sheet separator, a friction locking device for retaining the other end of the pressure bar in a raised position and comprising essentially an eccentric'locking plate which when left free jams, by its own Weight, means for operating the friction locking device, means for releasing the eccentric locking plate for the purpose of dropping the said end of the pressure bar while the lowermost sheet is being engaged and separated from the pile, and means for automatically raising said end of the pressure bar as soon as the next operative part of the machine has gripped the forward end of the separated sheet.

A paper separating and feeding machine of the kind described comprising in combination a feeding earn, an inclined knife sheet separator, both arranged beneath the stack or pile, a hinged pressure bar suspended over the stack in such a manner that one of its ends constantly presses on the pile above the knife sheet separator, a locking device for retaining the other end of the pressure bar in a raised position and comprising an eccentric locking plate, a stop pin,'and a rod pivoted to the pressure bar and adapted to be firmly gripped between the said stop pin and said locking plate, means for operating the friction looking device, means for releasing the eccentric locking plate for the purpose of dropping the said end of the pressure bar while the lowermost sheet is being engaged and separated from the pile, and means for automatically raising said end of the pressure bar as soon as the next operative part of the machine has gripped the forward end of the separated sheet.

A paper separating and feeding machine of the kind described comprising in combination a feeding cam, an inclined knife sheet separator, both arranged beneaththe stack or pile, a hinged pressure bar suspended over the stack in such a manner that one of its ends constantly presses on'the pile above the knife sheet separator, a locking device for retaining the other end of the pressure bar in a raised position and comprising an eccentric locking plate a stop pin, both of which are adapted to be raised, and a rod pivoted to the pressure bar and adapted to be firmly gripped between said stop pin and said locking plate when the latter are raised, means for raising the eecentric'loeking plate and stop pin simultaneously, means for releasing the locking device for the purpose of dropping one end of the pressure bar while the lowermost sheet is being engaged and separated from the pile, and means for automatically raising said end of the pressure bar as soon as the next-operative part of the machine has gripped the forward end of the separated sheet.

A paper separating and feeding machine of the kind descrlbed comprising in combination a box or container for the stack or pile of paper, a feeding cam, an inclined knife sheet separator, both arranged beneath the stack or pile, a hinged pressure bar suspended over the stack in such a manner that one of its ends constantly presses on the pile above the knife sheet separator, a pivoted rocking lever, an eccentric locking plate pivoted to the said lever, a projection upon the box or container adapted to be engaged by said locking plate, a stop pin also carried on said lever, a rod pivoted to the pressure bar, an eccentric adapted to act upon the said lever whereby it is raised and lowered in order, on the one hand, to cause the said pivoted rod to be firmly gripped between the said locking plate and the said stop pin, and onthe other hand to effect the release of the said pivoted rod, where the locking plate is swung upward by striking against the projection on the container, for the purpose of dropping one end of the pressure bar while the lowermost sheet is being engaged and separated from the pile, the said eccentric being adapted to raise the said lever at such a period during the operation of the machine that the said end of the pressure bar is automatically raised as soon as the next operative part of the machine has ripped the forward end of the separated s set.

A paper separating and feeding inachine of the kind described comprising in combination a box or container for the stack or pile of paper, a projection provided upon said box or eontalner, a feeding cam arranged at one end of and beneath the stack or pile, an inclined knife sheet separator arranged at the other end of and beneath the stack or pile and projecting through a slot in said box or container, a pressure bar so suspended over the stack that one of its ends constantly presses on the pile above the knife sheet separator, a rocking lever ar ranged beneath the box or container, means for pivoting said lever, an upright arm on said lever, an eccentric locking plate pivoted to said arm and adapted to engage said projection on said container, a pivot pin for said locking plate, a stop pin provided on said arm and adjacent said locking plate, a-
rod hinged to said pressure bar, and arranged between said locking plate and said stop pin, means for hinging said rod to said bar, a roller provided on the said rocking lever, an eccentric adapted to co-act with said roller, and a shaft carrying said eccentric and also said feeding cam, substantially as and for the purposes described.
