Description

UNIT *rares .Aeon snnBoLD, or' KAUTZ, rnNNsYLvANIA..
IMPROVEMENT IN Balones.-
vSpecification forming part of Lott-ers Patent No. 107,106, dated September (l, 1874).
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB SEEBOLD, of
Kautz,in the county of Snyder, andiuthe State of Pennsylvania, h ave invented certain new and useful 4Improvements in Bridges; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being hadto the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
vof my bridge.
A 'represents the abutment of the bridge,
vupon which the shoe IE is secured.' The bottom chord, which consists of rods C C and castings D D, and fastened to the 'shoe B, is fully described in a patent heretofore granted me for an improvement in bridges, and hence needs no further description here. bottom chords are connected by cross-beams E E, underthe castings I) D, and between isa-id beams are braces, crossing each other,
upon which the iioor is laid.
G is the top chord of the bridge, ou the nnder side of which, above each of the doer-beams E, is inserted a block, H. From each end ot' the block H a brace, I, extends down tothe casting I), on each side, as shown. The top and bottom chords are then connected by rods,
The two which pass through said chords, through the block H and the casting D, and are tightened by nuts at both ends, at the lower ends'aelasp being formed around the Hoor-beam E. The end ofthe top chord, G, is inclined downward and secured to the shoe B. From the point where the top chord, G, inclines downward, and against the end of the block I-I at this point, a brace, J, passes downward to a point on the abutment below the bottom chord, thereby increasing the strength of the bridge.
This bridge is mainly intended for streamsy where it is only necessary to have one spa-n,
and that not so very long. f
Any part of this bridge may be removed and repaired without the necessity of erecting any extra frame-work.
Having thus' fully described my invention, what Iclaiinas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the top chord, G, bottom chord, C D, blocks H H, the vertical ties which pass through the upper chord and block, I), and braces I I, all constructed an d arranged substantially as shown and described 2. The arrangement oi' the abut-ment A, shoes 13, bottom chords, C D, iioorbeams E, top chords, Gr, blocks H, and braces I J, all substantially as 'shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the 'foregoing I have hereunto sct my hand this 22d day of' June, 1870. y
- JAUOP SEEBOLD.
