GEORGE A. AMSDEN,- 9F LITTLETON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR'TO THE LALMSON COMEANY, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION 0F NEW JERSEY.
noexme- DEVICE FOR CARRIERS.
Application filed February 28, 1908. Serial No. 418,221
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE A. AMsnnN, of Littleton, in the county of'Middlesex and State of lviassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Looking Devices for Carriers, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in looking devices for carriers and is especially adapted for use in carriers such as are used in cable carrier apparatus for the transmission of cash etc.
The object of this invention is to supply a simple and effective locking device which will positively, lock the cover of the carrier closed and prevent the accidental opening of the same when rounding the turn or in transit.
In the accompanying drawings is illustrated a construction embodying my invention in which,'
Figure l is a -top plan view of a cable cash carrier showing the cover locked closed.
Fig. 2 is a similar view to Fig. 1, showing locking device released and carrier about to be opened by the operator. Fig.3 is a perspective of the carrier with cover open. Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are details of the locking mechanism hereinafter described.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts throughout the several views.
A represents an ordinary cable cash carrier, having a cover 13 hinged at G and adapted to be held open by a spring D. 'Pivoted at F in the cup shaped depression H on the outside of the cover B is a lock lever E having a handle G for operating the same and carrying a latch J adapted to engage the lip -K on the body of the carrier A to-lock the cover 13 closed and to clear the lip K when the let'er E is opened, to release and permit the cover to open.
The cover B is cut away at L to allow the cover to pass the lip K.
M is a stud fixed to the under side of lever E and adapted to operate in the slot- N in cover 13 to limit the movement of said lever.
-0 represents a fiat spring secured at one end to the under side of cover B and having a rib P adapted to coiiperate with stud M to prevent the accidental displacement or movement of the lever E. 1;;

operate in conjunction with the plate S to and the cover closed and the operator may lock thesame by throwing the lever E inward until the stud rib P and the latch J- has passed underneath and engaged the lip K holding the cover socurely closed. A
The rib P prevents the lock lever E from being thrown open by the movement of the carrier in transit positively preventing the accidental release of the contents.
Having thus described my invention and set forth a construction embodying the same,
M has passed the spring- To open the carrier theoperalor moves the what I claim as new and desire to secure b I Letters Patent of the United States, is
