To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH l). Kinoonn,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Homestead, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toy Cannons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy\ cannon containing mechanism for exploding what are known as paper caps; and has for its object to provide a simple, harmless and attractive toy of this type containing suitable mechanism for successively movinginto firing position and exploding by the same operation small charges of fulminate mounted at regi'llar intervals on a long strip of paper, the whole foijining a repeating cannon which may be actuated equally well by hand or foot.
lVith this and other objects in View, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinatter describer and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the toy cannon complete. Fig. 2 is a top' plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is an elevation with one of the sides removed. Fig. 4 is a similar view with the firing mechanism in a different position. Fig. 5 is a sectional detail view taken on. the line 5 of Fig. 3, looking downward. Figs. 6 and 7 are perspective views of actuating dogs .or*pawls forming a part of the invention. Figs. 8 and 9 are views of blanks from Whieh'the respective pawls or dogs are made.
The casing of the toy comprises a hollow shell made in imitation of the shape of a gun a and its mount 6, said shell being formed of two similar halves A, B, joined together in the vertical longitudinal center of the toy' by means of a transverse pin 10' riveted or otherwise secured on the outside of the mount. If desired, a second pin indicated at 10 by dotted lines may be used to further connect the two parts of the easing.

The partition or firing abutment 15 may be cast partly on each section or half, A, B, of thecasing, or if desired wholly on one section but made sufliciently large to project into the other section when the two are joined together to form the 021s ing. In the latter case the firing face of the abutment will be unbroken and perfectly smooth.
Within the chamber 13 isa hammer 17 made: preferably of cast metal with pintles 1S integral therewith that are mounted pivotally in holes 19 formed in the sections A, The hammer 17 'has a head 20 on its upper end arranged to strike against the abutment and explode the fulminate, while on the opposite side of the axis of the pintles 18 are two spaced lips 21 and 22 between which is an angular projection 28, the use of which parts will be described later.
Below the hammer 17 is an actuating lever 24 pivotally mounted intermediate its ends on the pin 10, one end of which lever projects outwardly through a slot 25 in the rear of the wall of the mount 7) and is provided with an enlargement 26 on which the hand or foot is placed when it is desired to fire the cannon. The inner end of the lever has a stud 27 projecting from one side, and a similar stud 28 projecting from the opposite side to form pivots for twopawls bear against the lip 22 on the hammer for actuating said hammer.
The pawls or dogs 29 and 30 are each made, preferably and for the sake of economy, of sheet metal blanks similar to Figs.
