The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it 'may concern A -detaching tbc'folding leg or legs.

Figure 2 represents the interior of the opened box, which forms the seat and the receptacle for the folded legs.

Figure 3 represents the opened box with the folded vlegs therein.

Figure 4 represents a portion of the end of the opened box, with one of the hooksor hasps which holds it open.

Figure 5 represents a side elevation of one of .the upper joints ofa folding leg, with the eye f, by which it is attached to box or seat.

This inventionJ-elates to that kind of folding seats' which are portable, and which are generally usedby persons visiting out-door celebrations, tire-works, 8vo., and has for its object to provide a substantial, strong, and durable seat, which will be cheap and convenient, and, when folded, compact, concealed, and easily car-` ried'.

lhisinvention consists of a jointed folding leg, constructed as shown, and provided with a pivoted swinging rod or rods, E, for holding the unfolded parts in 'their set position, and eyes f, for attaching the leg to the seat.

Also, 'in the arrangement and combination with the boxof connecting stud-plates B, by which the legs are applied or attached when the boxis opened.

Also, the combination of the folding leg, constructed as shown, with theopen box, provided with studplates B and stud c, as described.

Also, the relative arrangement and adaptation f the folding fle-gs and the box, each constructed as described, whereby the former is folded and concealed within the as set forth.

An eye, j', projects from the top end of each upper joint A and C, and issecured thereto by a shank o'r other suitable means.

The box may be one of common construction, each part about the same depth, aud'hinged together. To the inside of the cover D, ofone part ofthe box, I apply two -stud-plates,.B and B1, forconnecting the eyes f of the front leg, and in the same part two other stud-plates, B3 and Bi, each for connecting one' of the eyes f of each ofthe back legs.

The other vstud-plates, B4 and B6, for connecting the other eyes ot' the back legs, are applied to the inside of the cover F, and of the, opposite part of the box, all asclearly shown in thedrawing.

l -Hooks or` hasps, b, are applied to each end 'of the box, and near the hinged joint, to hold the box open.

Each leg, when unt'oldedand set, and 'secured in position,'is applied to its respective studs and plates by springing the two parts A and C together, first placing the eye fof one part onto the proper stud, then the other eye into the opposite cavity, d, and inside' ot' the stud there secured, and by allowing the parts A and C to spring outward, thus hinging the legs to the studs and the box.'

The` legs are detached'by springingthe top parts together, and by removing tirst one eye of'each from its stud, then the other.y

To pack the legs into the box, each one isfolded, v

first releasing and throwing up the rod or rods E into their grooves g, the folded legs placed in the box, the hooks b thrown back, and thetwo hinged 'parts closed together and fastened by a hasp, or a lock, if pref ferrcd.
