These two members conform in plan to the shape of a heel, and the forward member Q1 has a vertical fiat wall or other fastening' means a channel shaped keeper plate that is provided with key shaped openings 26 to receive the headed screws or pins 5 ot' the toe members l. The forward heel member 2l is recessed, as at- 27 to provide clearance for the heads ot' the screws 5 that are placed in the openings Q6 to connect the toe members l to the forward heel member. The vertical flanges 2S of the keeper plate'fZ engage the side edges of the toe members l, as best shown in Fig. t. This connection isl made with suiiicient locsencss and clearance between the parts so to permit the toe members being` spread by the adjusting of stem 14. The upper ends oi the heel members 2l and are recessed as at Q9 to receive a screwr pla'te() and rotatably mounted in said plate isa/"vertical screw 3l that. has a Iectangularrfishank or head 32 to accommodate the key or soineinstrument that is placed upon the end ot the stem 14- tor adjusting said stem. The screw 31 eX- tends between thc confronting faces 33 of the members 2l and 22 and these confronting' Yfaces are grooved, as at $34 to provide clearance tor the screw 3l. Moi-ably mounted upon the seat ot the members 2l and 22 is a wedge 39 that has a vertical onening-4t0 with the walls thereof screw 'threaded to receive the screw 31. The wedge 35i has the large end thereotl provided with sets of lugs 4l that ride between the seat $35 and the guides 87, said ings guiding' the. wedge 39 in its movement when the screw 31 is adjusted; The lower ends ol the heel members 2l and 22 have a longitudinal olatil l groove 42 to accommodate an anchor iff-3. This anchor plate is riveted or otherwise connected to the lower end ot the screw l 31, as at ft-t, the connection allowing' the screw 3l to be rotated without becomingV disconnected trom `saidl plate. From the foregoing` it will be observed that by adjusting the screw 31, the heel members 2 and- Q2 can be longitudinally adjusted, that is, said members can be separated or drawn together through the medium of the wedge 39. t

The forward ends of the'toe members l can be vseparated through the medium of the stem la and the wedge ll, and the adjustable toe members eoperate with the adjustable heel members in stretching a shoe or sustain its form while the shoe is not in use.

What I claim is l. A shoe last comprising` a pair ofV adjustable heel members, each ot said members formed with a recess havingone wall inclined and cach ot said members further provided with a pair of guide ways. a plate countersnnk in the bottoms of said members and of greater length than the combinedulength of the members, means for slidably connecting said plate to saidl memiers, a verticallyv movable adjustingr wedge capable ot engaging` the inclined walls ot said recesses for shitting said members relatively to each other, said wedge provided with lugs traveling in said guide ways, a rotatable threaded stem engaging with said wedge tor supporting and adjusting it.v and means for rotatably connecting the lower cud ot said stem to said plate.

2. A shoe last comprising a pair of toc anda pair ot' heel members, a plate countersunk in thc bottoms of said heel members and 'further having one end countorsunk in the bottoms of said toe members, means for slidably r onncctin ef said plate to said heel members` a channel-shaped keeper plate cured to that heel member opposing the toe members and provided with key-hole shaped openings, headed pins carried by the toe members and engaging in said keeper plate tor loosely connecting the toe members to that heel member provided with the keeper plate, a vertically movable means for adjusting' said heelfmembers relatively to each other` and a. longitudii 'ally movable means l'or adjusting said toe members relatively to lnach 'other'. i
