CHARLES MOST, CF` BERGEN CITY, NEW JERSEY.
Letters Patent No. 106,714, dated August 23, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-CRACCKER HOLDERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
full, clear, and exact description, reference being had' to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specilication.
` The object oi' -lny invention is to provide for the loading,r of a toy-pistol` with a tire-cracker, either at the muzzle, or at the breech, in such manner that t-he explosion ot' the lsaid cracker will expel its shell or case ii'om the barrel of the pistol. To this end l'tconsists in providing in the barrel ofthe pistol a longitudinal slot, which extends from the muzzle back to the breech, or to an opening provided for therece tion ot' a movable'breech-piece, and which provides for the passage ofthe fuse in loading the pistol.4 Inl'the accompanying drawing, which represents a lire-cracker pistol constructed according to my inventionv Figure 1 is a plan;
Figure 2, a longitudinal section;
Figure 3 is a transverse section taken at the dotted liuc x x in tig. 2; and
Figure 4 is a similar section, taken at the dotted line y y. i
Y-bnnilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A B is the body ot' the pistol, constructed of wood or other suitable material, ot' which A is the barrel and the stock.
F is the bore.
C, the longitudinal slot.
l) is the. breech-piece, and
E is a pivot upon which it swings.
.The bore F, which is ot'sufiivient size to admit of-a 'fire-cracker being easily introduced, extends backward beyond the forward end of the breech-piece D to the point d.
The longitudinal slot C runs through the barrel into the bore F, and extends back to the forward end -of .the breech-piece D.
The breech-piece D, which conforms on its upper side with the periphery of the body of the pistol, and
slot Cv terminates in this opening. ,l
The pivot E, on which the breech-pieceswings, passes through the breeclrp'iece, and is screwed into the body ot' the pistol.
which is to be lighted toward the breech, to drawI the fuse int-o the slot C, and then close the breech-piece and ignite the fuse, and when the cracker explodes the shell will be blown out-by the explosion.
The objection heretofore so'conunon in such pistols, of the crackers jamming up the bore of the pistol, is thus obriatetL Il'it is desirable to load the. pistol ti'om the muzzle, this may be elfected by inserting the cracker through the muzzle of the bore, with the fuse or end to be lighted toward the breech, inserting the said fuse into the slot C. The cracker may then be pushed in up to the breech-piece, or may be pulled toward the breechpiece by taking hohl ot' the fuse with the fingers and pulling it in that direction.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is;
A lire-cracker pistol, having a swinging breechpiece, D, and slot C, ext-ending from the muzzle to said breech piece, substantially as shown and described, as a new article ot' manufacture.
W itnesscs: CHARLES MOST.
Fano.' HAYNES, HENRY PALMER.
is liat on .its under side, is insertedinto an opening, o'
the. lire-cracker from going too far back therein. 'lh'e In order lo load the pistoltiom the breech, it is only necessary to open the lid or breech-piece D, andA insert the cracker in` the bore with the fuse or end
