This invention relates to improvements ih fasteningsfor the joints ot' bedsteads, and other articles of furniture which are required to lbe taken apart frequently. v

The invention consists in the application tothe side rails, at the ends and onone side, of a cross-piece of wood or metal, havingapair Of'tapered dovetailed lugs, one ateach end, which dt into correspondingly-slniped notches in a piece of wood or metal attached to the post or'part to which the side rail is to be attached, all as liereinaftel'niorc fully described.

A is the side rail, and

C is a piece of wood or meta-l attached to the side rail A, preferably at the inside and across itat the end.

This'cross-liiiecebas two lugs, D E, projecting from its face inward, one at the upper and the other at the lower end;

These lugs are widest at the uppery ends, Aand taper considerably toward the .lower ends. The tapered walls are under-cut or dovetailed, as shown at a;

The distance between the lower end-ot' the upper one and the upper end of the lower one is notless than the length of one of them, but may be more.

In order' to insert the lower lug E in the lowerl notch, a large recess, H, is cut into the face of the' piece 11, as fshown intig. 2.

These two pieces, C' and F, are vso shaped upon" the exterior that when locked together the said exa terior parts represent one symmetrical piece, which occupies but little space. p The said fastening may be applied to the frames of tables and other articles of furniture besides bedsteads. t Havingthus described my invention,
