LAMP SUPPORT.

Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedJune 2.4, 1913.
Application filed April 18, 1912. Serial No. 691,586.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN G. HlNns, citizen of the United States, residing at Drums, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This-invention has relation to lamp supports adapted to be applied to the bows or bars of buggy or vehicle tops for the purpose of supportingalamp at any desired position. The support may also be applied to the dash board or other parts-of the body of the vehicle and may be adjusted to hold the lamp vertical or at any desired angle.
\Vith the above object in view, the holder includes a clamp to which is adjustably attached a sleeve. A member is adjustably mounted in the sleeve and means is provided for holding the same in an adjusted position. The said member is adapted to support the lamp when it is mounted upon the holder.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the support; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of parts of the support separated; Fig. 3 is an elevation of the support with parts in sect-ion.
The holder includes a clamp member 1 which is preferably formed from metal and is provided with a ribbed flange 1 and a threaded stud2. A clamp member 3, also preferably formed from metal, is adapted to cooperate with the member 1 in grasping a .part of the top, dash board, body or other portion of the vehicle to which the holder is applied. A clamp screw 4 passes through the member 1 and is screw-threaded into engagement with the member3, whereby the members may be drawn together about the part of the vehicle to which the holder is applied.
A tubular member or sleeve 5 is provided at one end with an enlargement 6 which in turn is provided with a central aperture 7 through which the stud 2 passes. The said stud also projects through the sleeve, and a nut 8 is screw-threaded upon the said stud and bears against a washer 9.which is positioned against the side of the sleeve 5. The enlargement 6 is provided upon its upper face with a series of radially disposed grooves 10 which are adapted to receive the rib on the flange 1' of the clamp member 1, whereby the said clamp member is held in a fixed position with relation to the enlargement and sleeve after it has been adjusted. A member 11 is slidably mountedvin the sleeve 5, and may also be returned or rotated in the said sleeve. A lug 12 is attached to the side of the sleeve 5, and a set screw 13 passes through the said lug and is adapted to engage the member 11 and hold the same in a fixed position with relation to the sleeve after it has been adjusted. The member 11 may be provided with a post 14 or an eye 15 with which a bracket upon the lamp may be engaged.
The parts of the holder are so assembled that the clamp members may be applied to any part of the dash board, body, or bows of a vehicle, and the lamp may be positioned vertically, or at any desired angle. The holder may be easily and quickly ap lied and readily detached from the parts 0 the vehicle, and by reason of the arrangement of the parts as set forth it is susceptible of a wide range of adjustment.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is: v
A lamp holder comprising a tubular member having" one end thereof open and its other end closed and provided with a laterally extending enlargement, the face of which is; formed with intersecting grooves, there being an opening formed in the enlargement at the intersection of said grooves and extending transversely through the tubular member, co-acting clamping members supported on the enlargement and provided with registering openings, one of said clamping members being formed with anangularly disposed flange having a rib thereon adapted to fit within the grooves of the enlargement, a clamping 'screwlsecured to the angular flange of said clamping member and extending through the opening in the enlargement and tubular member respectively, for securing the clamping members in' position on said enlargement, a rod slidably mounted within the tubular memb'er'and provided with means for support- Q memes ing a lamp, :1 set screw extending through In testimony whereof I aihx my signature the tubular member and engaging the rod in presence of two Witnesses. for clamping the latter in different positions EDWIN G HINES s] of adjustment, and a clamping screw extending through the eo-acting clamping Witnesses:
