Another feature of the invention is the provision of a ring constructed from one piece of Wire so constructed as to provide two lateral portions, between which an arm (constructed from one of the other pieces of wire) of the cap, is pivoted.

Another feature is that the arm is constructed with a tail portion, adapted to yieldably contact with the neck of the bottle when the cap or closure is open, so as to automatically close the cap, when a portion of the contents of the bottle has been used.

Anotherfeature is the provision of a latch arm constructed from a third piece of wire and carried by the cap or closure, designed to engage a notch of the ring to hold the closure or cap closed.

There are disclosed in the drawings certain feature of cons ruction, but in prac tical fields these features may necessitate alterations, to which the patentee is entitled, provided the alterations fall within the scope of what is claimed.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.

annular ring 4 is constructed with free portions 6 constituting ears or lugs 7, which are fastened together by the rivet pin 8. This pin 8 acts as a pivot for the arm 9, which carries the cap or closure 10. This cap or closure 1.0 is formed with a flanged opening 11, in which the tapering lug 12 is riveted, owing to the shoulder 13 and the formation of said lug. In this manner the 5 cap or closure 10 is secured to the arm 9, One of the features of the invention is to provide a cork filler concealed in the cap;

thereby pivotally mounting the closure.

Arranged in the closure is a substantially disk shaped piece of cork 14. The side wall 15 of the cap or closure is so constructed as to prevent the downward movement of the cork, that is, displacement of the cork when the cap or closure is open. The cap or closure is provided with an additional flanged opening 16, in which the lug 17 of the latch arm 18 is riveted. In other words, because of the formation of the lug 17, in conjunction with the shoulder 19, the lug l7 and the latch arm 18 are riveted in a swiveled manner, so that after the cap or closure is once opened, the latch arm may be swung to one side out of the way of the undercut notch 5 of the ring 4:. In this manner the cap or closure may be opened freely whenever it is desired. However, upon first sealing the contents of the bottle, the cap is completely closed, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 with the cork 1 1 in close contact with the peripheral edge portion 20 of the outlet mouth of the bottle, after which the latch arm 1 (whi h is pr vided with a h oked portion 21) is placed in engagement with the notch 5. In this manner the sealing of the bottle is completed.

The cap or closure 10 extends slightly down upon two opposite portions of the on largement 2 of the neck of the bottle as shown at 22, however, only one extension 22 is shown in full lines, while the other portion is upon the far side of the enlargement, as indicated by the guarded lead .line to one of the characters 22. The cap or closure 10 is provided with oppositely arranged skirt flanges 23, which extend substantially half way down the enlargement 2. ltwill be seen that this form of cap neatly [its the enlargement, and in such a manner as to insure perfect sealing, owing to the fact that in some instances sealing wax or the like in the form of a coating may be arranged, as indicated at The hinge arm 9 terminates in a spring tail 25, which engages the neck of the bottle substantially at 26, when. the cap or closure is open, in order to insure the automatic closing of said cap, which function is perfectly obvious.

It is to be ascertained that from the foregoing in conjunction with the accompanying illustrations, there has been devised an exceedingly ethcient, simple, and cheaply constructed cap or closure, adaptable to any and all styles of bottles, and one which has been found particularly desirable and practical.

The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. In combination, a sheet metal cap or closure adapted to fit the month end of a bottle, a pair of arms swiveled to the cap opposite one another and suspended along the neck of the bottle, one acting as a hinge arm, while the other constitutes a latch arm, a ring arranged on the neck of the bottle below a shoulder thereof, to which the hinge arm is pivoted, said ring having an undercut notch to be engaged by the latch arm, said latch arm adapted to be swung laterally upon its swiveled connec- 'tion out of the way of the path of the notch, said hinge arm having a spring tail portion adapted to yieldably engage the neck of the bottle in order to automatically close the cap. 1 y

In combination, a sheet metal cap or closure having an inner cork filler adapted to fit the mouth end of a bottle, said cap having oppositely arranged tapering flanged openings, av pair of arms having tapering portions tapering toward shoulders, said portions being swivelly mounted in said flanged openings with the flanges of the openings contacting against said shoulders, one of said arms acting as a hinge arm, while the other constitutes a latch arm, a ring arranged on the neck of the bottle below a shoulder thereof, to which the hinge arm is pivoted, said ring having an undercut notch to be engaged by the latch arm, said latch arm adapted to be swung laterally upon its swiveled connection out of the way of the path of the notch, said cap, owing to its swiveled connection with the hinge arm, may be inverted when the cap is opened, said hinge arm having a spring tail portion adapted to yieldably engage the neck of the bottle, in order to automatically close the cap.
