UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM PERSON, OF ROCKFORD. ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO ROCKFORD CABINET COMPANY, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
DRAVVER-KNOB-POLISHING MACHINE.
Application filed April 17, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM PERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Vinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawer-Knob- Polishing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a machine for supporting and rotating wooden drawer knobs in order that they may be polished after being varnished.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved polishing machine. Fig. 2 is an end elevation in which a portion of the casing is broken away. Fig. 3 is a plan View in which a portion of the casing is broken away. Fig. 4 is a section on line dd Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a section on line c Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a section on line Z) Z) Fig. 1. Fig. 7 is a section on line 6 e Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a section on line a a Fig. 3.
The polishing machine comprises the table top 1 which is supported by legs 2 resting on the floor 3. A frame 4 is supported by the legs 2, and it supports a shaft to which is fixedly connected a drum 6, two loose pulleys 7 and 8 and a tight pulley 9. Beneath the floor 3 is located a drum 10 which is rotated in any suitable manner. A cross-belt 11 connects the drum 10 and loose pulley 7, and a straight belt 12 connects the drum 10 and the loose pulley S. A slide 13 is located in the guide-way 14. Two rods 15 are supported by the slide 13 and engage the crossbelt 11, and two other rods 16 are also supported by the slide and engage the straight belt 12.
A double slide 17 is supported by the guide cleats 18 and support handles 19. Bars are pivoted at their lower ends to the cleats 21, secured to the floor, and their upper end are pivoted to the double slide 17. These bars 20 are pivotally connected with the slide 13 by the rod 22. By mov ing the handles 19 the double slide 17 is reciprocated which will rock the bars 20 and Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 17, 1913.
Serial No. 691,523.
cause the slide 13 to be reciprocated which will shift the belts 11 and 12 alternately onto the tight pulley 9 which will impart a reversible rotary movement to the drum 6. The double slide 17 is locked in either ex treme movement by the latch 22% engaging notches in one of the slide bars.
The table 1 in this instance supports two heads, each comprising a bracket support 23 which supports a shaft 24 to which is secured a pulley 25. A belt 26 connects the pulley with the drum 6. One end of this shaft 24 is formed with an internal screwthiead 27 and the other end supports a sleeve 28 having a recess 29 in its end. A wood screw 30 is supported by the shaft and is located concentric within the recess 29.
A box cover 31 for the heads is pivoted to the table top 1, and is formed with openings 32 through one vertical wall, through which the screw 30 projects.
In use the shaft 24 is rotated so that the screw 30 will receive the knob 33 and the projections 34 Fig. 8, will be received within the recess 29. As the knob 33 rotates with the shaft 24 it can be polished. By reversing the direction of rotation of the shaft 24 the knob will be run free of the screw 30 by simply holding it still.
In some constructions of knobs a. long screw 35 Fig. 8, is secured to it. This screw is then turned in connection with the screw thread 27, and after the knob is polished, the shaft is oppositely rotated which will relieve the screw from its engagement with the shaft.
I claim as my invention.
An article holding device comprising a rotatable carrying member, holding means carried thereby, comprising, a screw mounted concentrically at the center of said carrying member, the head of the screw being fixedly secured therein and having its tapered screw body projecting beyond the end of said member; a recess extending into the face of said member, disposed concentrically with the center thereof and positioned circularly about the screw, leaving an outer pcripheral rim on said carrying member my hand in presence of two subscribing Witagainst Which a knob carried by the projectnesses.
ing screw may contact to allow radially disposed studs carried by the knob to locate in Witnesses:
