To all whom it may} concern l Be it known that 1, JOHN W. TENNY, l citizen of the United States, residing at Ponchatoula, in the parish of Tangipahoa I and State of Louisiana, have invented new l and useful Improvements in Dental Drillllolding Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My present im ention pertains to dentaldrill holders; and it contemplates the provision of a holder calculated to preclude wabbling of a dental drill, and this wh le permitting of the drillbeing expeditiously and easily removed and replaced with another drill. when occasion demands.
Other objects and advantageous features of the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the holder constituting the preferred embodiment of my invention. Fig. 2 is a 'plan' of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view showing the manner in which the working parts are positioned in the head of the holder. Fig. 4 illustrates the arrangementof a drill in the sleeve through the medium of which the drill. is rotated about its axis.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
The body 1 of my novel holder is designed conventional manner, or in any other manner compatible with the purpose of my invention, and in the said body is journaled a shaft section 2 which is driven from the engine in the ordinary well known manner, and is provided at its forward end with a gear 3, Fig. 3.
Fixed with respect to the forward end of the body 1 is one section 4 of the head of the holder, and to the said section 4 is hinged at 5, a section 6 that is adapted to be opened as occasion demands. The said section 6 is provided with an apertured lug 7 which is' designed to be opposed to a similar lug 8 on the section 4, and to be detachably connected thereto through the medium of a screw 9.

as best shown in Fig. 3, whereby when'the' shaft 2 is rotated the sleeve 13 will also' 'be rotated. 'Inter-iorly the sleeve 13 is provided with an abutment '16, and in the upper end of the sleeve is formed an aperture-17, Fig. 5 which describes a little more than half of a circle.

It will furthen be appreciated fromthe foregoing that the hinged section .6 affords ready access to the interior of the head when it is necessary to repair or replace the sleeve and its appurtenances.
Having described my invention, what I.
claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent. is: r

A dental-drill holder having a head comprisinga fixed section and a. hinged sec-. tion, means for adjustably fixing the hinged section with respect to the fixed section, 8. sleeve secured and journaled between the fixed section and the hinged section; said I and also to take up wear "or" lost motion and maintainthe sleeveand the and: journald, in the saidis provided with a lot v that offthe fixed section. an adustin screw connecting the said lugs, a sleeve secured and journaled between the fixed section and the hinged section; said sleeve being constructed and arranged to receive a drill, and means in the holder for transmitting rotary motion to the sleeve.
3 A dental-drill holder comprising a body, a head section tixed thereto, a head section hinged to me fixed section, means for adjustably fixing the hinged section with respectto the fixed section, a sleeve journ'nled and secured between the fixed section and the hinged section and having an exterior flange and an interior abutment and also having an upper end aperture of angular form in cross-section, a shaft journaled in the body and connected by gearing with the sleeve, a drill arranged in the sleeve and having a. shoulder opposed to the interior abutment thereof and also having a portion corresponding in shape to and snugly occupying the upper end aperture of the sleeve and further having a groove disposed above the sleeve, and a latch pivoted in the fixed head section and notched to engag the grooved portion of the drill.
