ALEXANDER IVICALLISTER AND THOMAS LOGAN, 0F HANNA, WYOMING.
TRUCK.
Application filed July 20, 1912.
To al? 107mm, 25 may concern.'
Be it known that we, ALEXANDER MoALLIs- TER and THOMAS Loca-iN, citizens of the United States, residing at Hanna, in the county of Carbon and State of lVyominO, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trucks. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trucks and more particularly to that type of trucks adapted to transport coal cars up inclines out of mines.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device of this character which is adapted for receiving coal cars from lateral leads and transporting them up inclines.
A further object of the invention is to provide ay truck of this character having adjustable platforms which will adapt the truck for inclines of different pitch, whereby the cars will be held in horizontal position at all times.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing. which forms a part of this application and in which Figure 1 is a top plan view. Fig. Q is a` side elevation. Fig. 8 is a detail sectional view.
1n Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the track 1 is shown on an incline which may lead to the outside of the mine or to any other suitable point. Leading into these tracks at` right angles are other tracks shown at which are arranged in the lateral lead for the transportation of coal cars from said lateral leads to the inclined leading to the outside of the mine. The above statement gives the general idea of the manner of employing a truck to be hereinafter de scribed in connection with mines having inclined shafts and lateral leads connecting the same. 1t will here be stated that the employment of the truck to be described obviates the use of expensive switches and operating the apparatus.
The truck comprises a rectangular frame 3 formed of any suitable material and hav ing sufficient strength to withstand the strain to which it is subjected. This frame is mounted upon wheels el adapted to run upon the rails of the track 1. Extending transversely across the frame are separated Specification of Letters Patent.

shafts 5 and G, to each of which are pivoted platforms 7 and 8, each having adepending rear piece 9 and which carries suitable mechanism for raising and lowering the rearend of the platform. These platforms have mounted thereon the rails l() and are preferably provided with some form of locking mechanism which will engage the axle of the cars and hold the same against movement laterally of the truck. A conventional form of locking mechanism is here shown in the form of pivoted spring pressed pawls or dogs 11 which engage the axles of the car.
The mechanism for raising and lowering the free ends of the platforms may also consist of any suitable mechanism7 ay conventional structure being here shown in the form of a rack bar operated by a worm and worm wheel.
The forward end of the truck has secured thereto a rope or cable 12 having a hook 13 at its outer end which is adapted to engage the ties of the track 1 or suitable projections la projecting therefrom. This means is provided in order that the truck may be held in stationary position with .its tracks in alinement with the tracks 2 of the lateral leads. .Vhen the cars are pushed on to the truck from the lateral leads, )ivoted dogs at the receiving side of the truck will be depressed until the car axles pass the same, at which time they will be raised so as to lock the cars against movement laterally on the truck.
that is claimed is l. A car carrying truck comprising a wheeled frame, platforms pivoted at one end to the frai'ne and having their' surface inclined with relation to the frame7 tracks carried by the platform, and means for raising and lowering the free end of the platform.
A. car carrying truck comprising a wheeled frame, platforms pivoted at one end to the frame and having their surface inclined with relation to the frame, tracks carried by the platform, and means for locking cars on the tracks against lateral movement over the platform.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER MCALLTSTER. THOMAS LOGAN. Witnesses Enw. MGTEE, Mrs. ED. MCATEE.
