Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 7,1913. Serial No. 746,948.
useful Improvements in Driers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements n driers, more particularly to devices of thischaracter employed for drying corn on the ear to prepare the same for seed, and has for one of its objects to simplify and improve the construction and increase the efliciency and-utility of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device which may be increased or decreased in size without material structural change other than to increase the size of the parts.
Another object of the invention is to produce a simply constructed device which may be knocked down for transportation or storage.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically'pointed' out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the im- Fig. 2 IS a vertical section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. F1g. 3 is a transverse section on the'line 3-3 of Fig. 2."
Fig. A is a view similar to Fig. 2, illustratinga modification in the construction.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The improved device may be constructed of any required size or capacity, and of any suitable material, and it is not desired to limit the invention in this respect.
The improved device may be constructed wholly of wood or wholly of metal or partly of wood and partly of metal, and comprises vertical side members or standards 10-11, a transverse head member 12, a transverse foot member 13, and transverse slats or bars .A spaced apart and arranged in pairs' The members 101112-13 may be of any required size,
be about four inches wide when employed but the sides 10-11 should for drying corn in the ear, and may be of any required thickness At their lower ends the members 1011 are inclosed in sheathings 15 of sheet metal, glass, mouse and rat proof paint, or the like, or other suitable material which will repel rats, mice and other vermin. The lower ends of the sheathing. members 15 are formed into sockets 16 to receive the ends of the base member 18.
Attached to the side edges of the members 10-11 are strips 17 of sheet metal or the like and bent at s aced intervals into sockets 18 to receive anc support the terminals of the bars 14, as, shown. The strips 17 are preferably continuous, and extend over the ends of the head member 12 and thus form sockets to receive and support the head member. By this means the bars 14, head member 12v and base member 13 are firmly supported and likewise readily separable for transportation and storage. By this ar rangement also the devicemay be increased or decreased in size and capacity by increasing or decreasing the lengths of the horizontal members 1213 and 14: and without chan e in the vertical members.
When the device is constructed of metal the parts 17 will be riveted or otherwise secured to the side members, and when the bars are constructed of wood the parts 17 will be secured by nails, screws, or other similar suitable fastening devices.
The members 14 may be of any required size, but will preferably be rounded upon their upper edges as shown.
The improved device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured and provided with any required num- Patented J une 10, 1913. t
her of the supporting slats or bars to inare spaced slightly apart so that the air circulates around each ear, consequently each ear will be dried uniformly and completely.
Any required material may be employed for the sheathing 15, such as mouse-proof paint,'iron paint, glam, or any other material which will repel mice, rats, and other vermin.
In Fig. 4 the improved device is shown with the bars 14 connected directly to the invention, What is claimed is:
l. A drier device comprising a frame in eluding vertical side members spaced apart,
strips engaging'the edges of the side members and bent into sockets at spaced inter- Vale, and horizontal supporting members spacedapart and arranged in pairs and engaging in the sockets of the strips.
2. A drier devicecoinprising a frame including vertical side members spaced apart, strips engaging the edges of the side members and bent into sockets at spaced intervale and extending at their upper ends over the side members to form receiving sockets members below above the same, horizontal supporting mem bers spaced apart and arranged in pairs and engaging in the sockets of the strips, vermin-proof checking members upon the side the lower supporting members and extending below the side members to form sockets beneath the same, a base member received at its ends in the sockets of the sheathing members, and a head mem ber received at its ends in the sockets above the side members.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
