Description

T. N. IGLEHART. DENTAL SYRINGE OBTUNDER. APPLICATION FILED AUG. 29, 1912.
Patented June 10, 1913.
1N VEN TOR krroRuEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS NELSON IGLEHABT, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
DENTAL SYBTNGE-OBTUNDER.
Specification of Iietters Patent. Patented June 10, 1913 Application filed August 29, 1912. Serial No. 717,707.
T 0 all whom it may concern: I
- Be it known that I, THOMAS NELSON IGLE- HART, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dental Syringe-Obtunders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a protective tip to be mounted on the end of spray nozzles of syringes or like devices.
The object of the invention is to providea soft or flexible tip which may be mounted or attached to the discharge end of a spray nozzle or like device, in such a manner that it will prevent abrasion or injury to the gums as when the tip..is applied to an oral The device here shown has been especially designed and constructed for application to oral dental syringes. A syringe of this'nature is'generally used by dentists for the purpose of cleansing the teeth and in parti cularly the spaces between same.
In operating a syringe it-is almost necessary to bring the spray nozzle oi same in contact with the teeth and gums, which often causes abrasion and injury to the gums. With the purpose in view of el1m1- nating any unnecessary injury of this nav at A,
true, and also for the purpose of confining the area of the spray issuing from the nozzle I have constructed a protective tip, the application of which is generally indicated soft rubber or like flexible material, and can be brought in direct contact with the teeth and gums without causing any abra- Fig. 1. This may be constructed of sion or injury to same. The preferred form of the tip is shown in Figs. 2 and3.
. The device consists of the main body portion 2, which is adapted to slip over the end of the nozzle 2*, and it further consists of a central projection 3 and a funnel-shaped pro ection 4. Fig. 4 shows 'a'slight modishoulder 5, which will prevent the nozzle from being forced clear through the tip.
the teeth, it is only necessary .to apply the tip to the part being cleansed, the funnel portion of the tip serving to confine and ing sprayed, as for instance the spaces or openings between the teeth. The central projection 3 is provided for the purpose of bringing the discharge point of the nozzle as close to the part being sprayed as possible, so as to utilize the greatest force of the wash liquid.
Thetip is neat in appearance, useful, reliable-and eflicient in its application. The
manufacturer may dictate.
I wish it understood that various changes in form, proportion and minor'detai-ls of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim, and that-1' do not wish to limit myself to the specific design and'construction here shown..
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' tunder, of a hollow, flexible body portion adapted to slip over the end of the syringe nozzle, and having a tubular soft extension in line with the nozzle, and an exterior divergent cup-shaped portion surrounding the tubular center and extending beyond it.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS NELSON IGLEHART.
