Description

inteli tapes y met @imita AUGUSTUS F. TRIPP, OF'BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 106,430, dated luf/'ust 16, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN" DREDG-E-BOX.
.'Lltiel Schedule referred to in `these Letters Patent and making partcf the sama.
Y.QAUGUSTUS F. TRIPP, of the city of Buffalo, in the leonnty of Erie and State of New York, have inl rented an vImproved Dredge-Box, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to that class of dredge-boxes which is provided with secondary covers for the perforated ends, sol that theymay be used as packinghoxes for .putting up-spices, &c.
The invention consists in providing for the application of a secondary metallic cap or cover, of less diameter than the diameter of the box, hy making an annular groove or depression either in the permanent end or in the principal cover, and perforating the central portion of such end or cover only, the projection of said centra-l portion above the base of' the groove heilig sulcient to receive and retain in place the ,flanged metallic ca-p, without increasing yeither the dlameter or length ot' the box.
In the accompanying,r drawing- Figure I is a perspective view of my improved box, showing the parts slightly separated i'ron each other. IFigure II is a vertical section, showing'the parts connected.
Like'letters of reference designate like partsin each of the figures.
A is the cylindrical body of the box, of usual construction;
l B represents the principal cover;
Gis the central perforated portion; and
D is the annular groove or depression.
E is the flan-ged cap or secondary cover, rwhich ts over the central portion C, and closes the perforatious therein. l
It is'obvious that the perforations mayas well bei ,made in the permanent end of the box, together with the annular depression and the secondary cap applied thereto.
By my 'improved method of construction the vboxes can be made of uniform size at both ends, and can be more closely packed for transportation.
I do notclaim agroove or depression about the central perforated portion Snell as shown in the patent grantedl to Charles T. i?ali'ner, September 8, 1868, neither do I claim adepressed central perforated part with an annular bead, suchas'shown in the patent of l Charles T. Palmer, dated June 22, 1868; but v IVhat I cla-im as my invention is- The arrangement of the annular groove or depression I) about the central perforated portion C, in combination with theanged cap E, as and for the pnrposes hereinbefore shown and described.
' AUGUSTUS F. TRIPP.
