Specification of Letters latent.
Application filed Kay 8, 1911. Serial No. 62636 1.
Patented June 10, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. BUTLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrison, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports or Brackets for Shaving-Mugs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has reference, generally, to improvements in brackets or supports for shaving-mugs, and the like; and, the present invention relates, more particularly, to a novel form and construction of support, in the form of a wall-bracket, for the arrangement thereon, in its inverted relation,
of a shaving mug or cup, for the principal purpose of permitting a perfect drainage of the mug or cup after use.
The invention has for its principal object to provide a novel and simply constructed support or bracket for a shaving mug or cup, which is provided with a removable pad of a waterproof material, as rubber, and upon which the inverted'mug or cup is adapted to be placed for its perfect drainage, and which serves also. as a retaining means for holding or retaining the shaving brush in a vertical and inverted relation within the inverted mug or cup, to permit and, finally to provide a convenient and neat supporting means which is perfectly sanitary.
Other objects of this invention not at this time more particularly enumerated will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the present invention.
With the various objects of the present invention in view, the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel support or bracket hereinafter set forth; and, the invention consists, furthermore, in the novel arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which will be more particularly described in the following specification and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claim which are appended to and which form an essential part of this specification.
' The invention is clearly illustrated in the i accompanying drawings, in wh1ch:-
Figure 1 is a side-elevation of a support or bracket, showing one embodiment of the princ ples of the present invention, said view illustrating in connection therewith a shaving mu or. cup in its inverted relation and a s aving brush in its supported positiomthe shavin brush being represented in elevation, and e mug or cup being re resented partly in vertical section and artly in elevation. Fig. 2 is a longitudina vertical section of all of the various devices and parts represented in said Fig. 1, except the shaving brush which is illustrated in elevation; and Fig. 3 is a plan View of the support or bracket and its pad, the mug or cup being omitted from this view.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of-the above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now to the said figures of the drawings, the reference-character 1 indicates a complete support or bracket made according to and embodying the principles of the present invention, the same comprising a suitably formed and suitably .ornamerited fastening plate, as 2, which is adapted to be secured to the face of a wall, or
the like, by means of fasteni-n screws 3, or'
any other suitable fastening evices. This fastening plate 2 is preferably made in the form of a shell which is domed, as at t, and
has suitably connected therewith, an arm.
or extension, as 5, of any desired shape and configuration. Suitably connected with the said arm or extension 5 is a suitably constructed and suitably shaped supporting member or element 6, which is preferably made of wire and is bent ring-shape, as represented in' the several figures of the drawings. A series of pins, fingers, or posts, as 7, extend at desirable points in upward directions from the said ring-shaped member or element 6, substantially as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings. Removably disposed upon said ring-shaped element or member 6, and held thereon against lateral and accidental displacement, by means of said fingers or posts 7, is a pad 8 which is made of a waterproof material, such as rubber, and in its general marginal configuration conforms, generally, to the shape of the said supporting member or element 6. The said pad 8 is preferably made thicker at the parts which surround the holes or perforations 9 for arranging the pad over said fingers or posts 7, so as to form reinforcements 10, which helps to strengthen the (pad at the points where it is supported, an prevents the pad becoming torn at these points, as will be clearly evident. In its central portion the flexible or resilient pad 8 is made with a hole or opening, as 11,- for the insertion of the handle 12' of a shavingbrush therein, in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
The reference character 13 indicates a shaving mug or cup which after it has been used is placed in its inverted relation upon the said pad 8, with the shavin brush secured in the manner herein-a ove mentioned, so as to permit of a perfect drainage of the mug or cup, and the drying outof the latter and of the bristles of the brush. The shaving mug or cup is also referably provided upon one of its inner aces with soap-retainingfprojeetions, as 14, for retaining the piece 0 soap within the mug or cup when in its inverted relation.
From the foregoing description of the pres ent invention, it will be clearly understood that I have devised a simply constructed and sanitary device, from which the pad 8 is readily removable, so that it can be cleansed at any time, the fingers or posts 7 serving also as a means which prevents any accidental displacement of the shaving mug or cup when placed in its inverted position upon the support or bracket for the urposes of draining and drying, the pad and mug providing also an air-tight and sanitary device.
I am aware that some changes may be made in the general arrangements and combinations of the various parts without departing from the invention as set forth in the foregoing specification and as defined in the claims which are appended thereto.
Hence, I do not limit my present invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts as described in the said specification, nor do I confine myself to the exact details of the construction of the said parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, except as required v by the appended claims.
I claim 1. A support for the arrangement thereon of a shaving mug in its inverted relation for drainage, comprising a supporting element, and a flexible pad thereon, said pad being of greater area than the open portion of the shaving mug, so that the marginal edge of the inverted mug as it rests upon said pad will provide an air-tight joint, said pad being provided with a'receiving opening for the reception in its inverted relation to the pad of a shaving brush and being adapted to retain the brush in such relation, but permitting the brush to be drawn through, said opening when desired for use, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination'with a shaving mug, of a bracket upon which said mug is adapted to be removably supported in its inverted position, said bracket comprising a supporting element, a fastening means connected therewith, posts extending upwardly from the said supporting element, and a flexible pad upon said supporting element, said pad being provided with holes for removably arranging said pad over said posts, said pad being made of waterproof material and providing with the mug an air tight device.
In testimony, that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 3rd day of May, 1911.
THOMAS J. BUTLER.
