Description

EZRA RIPLEY, 0E TROY, NEw YORK.
FAUCET.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 10,641, dated March 14, 1854.
To all whom, it may concern.'
Be it known that I, EZRA RIPLEY, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented a certain new' and useful Improvement inv Faucets or Fluid- Grates; vand I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, vand exact description o-f the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making Va part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the faucet, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken through the clamps orjaws and the discharge orifice.
The same letters indicate like part-s in each figure. c
The nature of my invention consists in adjustablevclamps or' jaws combined with a faucet tube for the purpose of opening and closing, at pleasure, the discharge orifice on one side of the tube. r j
The construction is as follows, viz:
A is the tube, B, B, the adjustable clamps or jaws.
C is the screw by means of which the clamps or jaws may be adjusted or tightened.
D D are shoulders or guides for keeping the clamps or jaws, while the faucet -is being operated, in their respective positions with the orifice E, through which iluids are discharged.
F is a packing of leather o r any other suitable substance, ylet into a recess formed in the working side of the clampor aw, for
ythe purpose of stopping Yefectiuilly, when the gat-e is closed, all further discharge or Y leak of the Huid. j l Y The adjustable clamps or `jaws B B are formed of two pieces, and made toV clutch the other third for the discharge orifice.
4ol vthe tube, and correspond thereto, as wellfas extend nearly two thirds around it, leavingl When the clamps or jaws 'are adjusted to the faucet tube A, they may be turned around so that one of the jaws or clamps will cover theV orifice from whence fluids are discharged, and stop the further flow, .i
until the same is desired. When fluids are to'be drawn the orifice may be opened by reversing the motion used in closing it. j
. The advantages of my `improvemer'lt consist in its simplicity of construction, and
durability, and in its .being peculiarly adapty ed to the purpose and usefor which it is designed.
Having thus described my invention, what i ters Patent, is: Y
The adjustable clamps or jaws B B `vin.
combination with the faucet tube A, for the purpose of closing and opening the dis# charge orifice E, when draftingor draw-v .j
