Description
r I. K. WISE. PORTABLE ADVERTISING DEVICE. AVPPLIOATIONIIILED JULY 26, 1912.
1511167? for: @AQZC Patented June 10, 1913.
, UNITED STATES PATENT omuon.
F RANK K. WISE, OF CRAWFORDSVILLE, INDIANA.
I PORTABLE ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
k 1 Application filed July 26, 1912. Serial No. 711,755.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, FRANK K. VISE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Crawfordsville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Portable Advertising Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in portable advertising devices and has for its object the production of an advertising device of the character described and to this end my invention consists in the peculiar construction, combination and arrangement of the several-parts as will be more fully pointed out in the following description and claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, in which like letters and numerals of reference inclicate corresponding parts throughout the several views ;-Figure l is a front elevation of my invention entire, showing it unfolded and securely set in open position for displaying the advertising matter which may be placed thereon. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same, showing it properly folded and assembled for being conveniently trans ported from place to place. Fig. 3 is an end plan of my invention, showing it properly folded and assembled.
The rectangular frames, A, A, by prefer ence formed of ordinary rigidly-joined strips of wood, are freely and securely hinged together by means of common hinges B, B, rigidly mounted upon adjacent corresponding parts which allow the rectangular frames to unfold into a common plane for displaying such advertising matter as may be placed upon the rectangular backs C, C, as shown in Fig. 1, or to fold compactly together for securely inclosing the advertisingmatterand for being conveniently transported from place to place.
The rectangular display backs C, C, preferably formed of integral blanksv of sheet metal, are nested in suitable rabbeted portions in each of the rectangular frames A, A, and are securely retained therein by ordinary, overlaid wood-strips e tacked to the outside wood-strips of each rectangular frame. The display backs C C, are suitably inset in each of the rectangular frames A, A, for the Patented June 10, 191 3.
further purpose of providing an ap )roved receptacle for the body portions of tie detachable standards D, T), when the rectangular frames are folded compactly together for the purpose of being ctmveniently transported from place to place. It will be readily noted here that the advertising matter may be printed, painted or stenciled upon the display backs (l, C, in as plain, conspicuous or ornate a manner as the art may require or as the fancy of the user may approve.
The detachable standards D, D, by preference formed of separate, integral blanks of iron or steel rod, are provided with pointed lower ends f for freely penetrating the ground and with laterally bent and buckled upper portions 9 for securely upholding the rectangular frames A, A, when mounted thereon as shown in Fig. l and for manually working the detachable standards into or out of the ground, as their use may require. I
It represent outstandingscrcw eyelets, of well known construction, rigidly secured at approved intervals in the end strips of the rectangular frames A, A, for suitably mounting and retaining the rectangular frames upon the standards D, D, while displaying the advertising matter thereon as shown in Fig. 1..
The standards D, D, may be manually removed from the ground and from their retaining screw eyelets h and their end portions inserted into suitable grooves 41 of the outside wood-strips of the rectangular frames as shown by the dotted lines 7', ]c,
Fig. l, for securely retaining and inclosing them within the rectangular frames when the same are folded compactly together for being conveniently transported from place to place.
Z represent a pair of ordinary hook and eye fasteners rigidly mounted upon the outer longitudinal wood-strips of the rectangular frames for securely holding to gcthor the rectangular frames when folded compactly for being conveniently transported.
m refers to an ordinary hand-grip centrally mounted on the outer longitudinal wood-strip of the rectangular frame A for the purpose of providing a suitable means for carrying my invention about, as its use may require.
certain tradesmen, such as real estate agents,
painters, plasterers, builders, etc., for suitably disclosing their business or trade Wherever their interest may attach to or theiren terprise may appear upon any real estate by securely posting this advertising device in a conspicuous Place thereon.
Having thus fully described my invention, and set forth the operation and advantages thereof, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
1. A portable advertising device comprising a pair of hinged rectangular frames having a pair of display backs securely mounted therein, forming an inclosed carrying receptacle When the frames are folded together, retaining grooves suitably formed in the sides of the frames, detachable standards adapted to lie within'the grooves and to be contained in said receptacle when the frames are folded together, and means on the outside of the frames for detachably connecting the standards thereto to support the frames when in open position.
2. In a portable advertisingdevice, the combination of a pair of hinged rectangular frames having a pair of display backs securely mounted within the hinged frames for the purpose of displaying such advertising matter as may be placed thereon, outstanding screw eyelets rigidly mounted at approved intervals on the outside of the end strips of the hinged rectangular frames and a pair of detachable supporting standards adapted to be detachably held by said screw eyelets provided with pointed lower ends for freely penetrating the ground and with laterally bent and buckled upper portions for manually workin thedetachable standards into or out oft e ground and for securely upholding the hinged rectangular frames in open position above the ground for displaying such advertising matter as maybe placed thereon, substantially as descr bed.
