To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, DANIEL SCANLAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Faucet, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to faucets and consists in the novel arrangement and con'lbination of parts hereinafter shown, described and claimed.

An object of the invention is to provide a faucet for controlling a plurality of passages which enter a common spigot, or discharge, thereby providing a device whereby liquid may be drawn from selected ones of several containers.

Another object is to provide means whereby the faucet may be flushed or cleansed after a liquid has passed therethrough thus keeping the parts of the faucet which are exposed to the atmosphere in a clean or sanitary condition.

To these and other ends I have produced the device hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference indirate like parts, and in which- Figure 1 is a front view of .my improvement, a section thereof being broken away showing clearly the plurality of inlet passages and the common chamber entering the spigot, and, Fig. 2 is a side view showing a vertical section through the faucet.

In the en'lbodiment of my invention illustrated in the drawings the casting A is made from any suitable metal and is exteriorly finished so as to be artistic and symmetrical in design and is arranged to be mounted in a y'all or partition ll, constituting a permanent support therefor.

In the upper part of the casting A are arranged, in an are, a plurality of passages 11, which extend from the rear of the casting A forwardly and downwardly, as shown in Fig. 2, which passages communicate with an interior conical opening 2, fornual in the said casing A. Diametritnlly opposite each of said inlet passages 1 is arranged an outlet passage 3 communicating with a common chamber 4-, the upper part of which is substantially cylindrical in form, merging into the conical or funnel shape bottom portion as clearly shown in Fig. 9 of the drawings. The lower part of said chamber l terminates in a tubular outlet 5, constituting the discharge outlet. Communieating with the inlet end of the several passages 1 are arranged a series of pipes (3 which lead to a plurality of chambers or containers C. The central passage 1 is tapped directly to a water pipe. 7 and constitutes means for introducing water under pressure, into the faucet for cleansing purposes. It is contemplated that the container 0 may be filled with different liquids, such, for instance, as different flavoring extracts or beverages. After the liquid from one container has been drawn, the water from the pipe 7 may be passed. through the faucet carrying with it any of the liquid that might be held within the chamber 4tand discharge outlet 5.

For controlling the several passages I provide a valve element 1), the outer periphery of which conforms with the inner surface of the opening 2 of the casting A. In the element 1) is a single passage 8, one end of which is arranged to register with any one of the inlet passages 1, while the other end registers with the corresponding one of the outlet passages 3. The inner end of the valve element 1) is provided with an integral stud E), which is arranged .for threaded engagement with the nut 10, which coiiperates with the washer 11v for retaining the valv element 1) in proper adjustment. The front face of the valve element 1) is provided with an extension 1.2 and on which is removably mounted a hand wheel 13 for nniuipulating the valve plug l).

to the front face of the casting A is affixed a dial 14-, which cooperates with a pointer 15 carried by the hand wheel 4; to indicate which of the passages 'l and 3 are in registration and also to indicate when all of said passages are closed, as will be readily understood.

As indicatcll l prefer to arrange the water inlet passage intermediate of the passages leading from the containers (1, so that it will be necessary in passing from one to the other to tlmroughly flush the spigot be fore opening the passage leading from the other container. Any number of passages may be provided, as will be umlerstood.

I am aware that the details of my invention may be modified in several particulars without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. I do not limit myscl f, therefore, to the exact structure shown,

but

WVhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:

1. A faucet comprising, in combination, a casing arranged to be mounted in a permanent support and having a horizontal opening therethrough, a number of substantially horizontal inlet passages which extend from the rear face of said casing substantially parallel with said opening, extensions of said inlet passages entering said opening and disposed radially with respect to the opening, a chamber supported by said casing, a number of radial discharge passages leading from said opening in said casing to said chamber, a valve plug in said opening in said casing, a single passage extending radially through said valve plug, whereby liquid may be conducted from any one of said inlet passage extensions to a corresponding outlet passage, and means for operating said valve plug, substantially as specified.

2. A faucet comprising a valve casing arranged to be mounted in a permanent support and having a horizontal tapering opening therethrough, a number of inlet passages extending from the rear of said casing substantially parallel with said opening, extensions of said inlet passages entering said opening and disposed radially with respect thereto, a common discharge chamber supported by said casing, a valve plug operatively mounted in said opening, a single pas sage extending diametrically therethrough, whereby liquid may be conducted from any one of said inlet passage extensions to said common discharge chamber, a. hand wheel attached to said valve plug for manipulating the same, a dial attached to the front face of said valve casing, and a cooperating pointer carried by said hand wheel for indicating the position of said valve plug, substantially as specified.

3. A faucet comprising a casing having an opening therein arranged to receive a valve plug, a series of L-shapcd inlet passages arranged in the upper part of said casing and extending from the back of said casing forwardly and downwardly into said opening, a plurality of outlet passages leading from said opening in diametrical alinement with the portions of said inlet passages entering said opening, respectively, a chamber formed in said valve casing arranged to receive liquids discharged from all of said outlet passages, a single discharge outlet from said chamber, a valve plug operatively mounted in said opening in said casing, a single passage diametrically through said valve plug arranged to communicate with said inlet and outlet passages, a handlefor rotating said valve plug, and a dial indicator cooperating with the handle for indicating the various positions of the valve, substantially as specified.

A faucet comprising a valve casing provided with a substantially horizontal opening therethrough, a series of L-shaped passages arranged in the upper part of said casing and extending from the back of said casing, forwardly and downwardly into said opening, a series of outlet passages extend ing downwardly from the opening formed in said casing, a common discharge chamber in communication with the lower ends of said outlet passages, a discharge outlet leading downwardly from said discharge chamber, a valve plug seated in said opening formed in said valve casing, a single passage'extending diametrically therethrough arranged to bring selected ones of said inlet and said outlet passages into communication, and manual means for revolving said valve plug, substantially specified.

A faucet comprising a casing provided with an opening constituting a valve seat, a number of inlet passages extending from the rear face of said casing above and substantially parallel with said opening, clownward extensions of said inlet passages entering said opening, a discharge chamber supported by said casing below said opening and in ceminunication therewith, a valve plug operatively mounted in said opening, a single passage extending diametrically therethrough arranged to connect any desired inlet passage with said discharge chamber, and means for operating said valve plug, substantially as specified.
