LIQUID-FUEL BURNER.
l (N33 S75.
To all wlw/mf may concern le it known that we, Honour L. llaNNan and llenan It. llaNNan, citizens ot the United t'ltates, residing at lVaco, in the county ot' ilf'tcl'iennan and State ot 'l`exas, have invented new and use't'ul Improvements in Liqunl-luel l'urners, ot' which the tollowing' `is a speeitication.
This invention relaties to liquid tucl burners and more particularly to that type which are slj ecitically ctmstructed to burn semi-viscons l'luids, such as crude oil, coal or gas tar, and the like.
One ot the principal objects ot the invention is to provide a simple and ellicient deviee of this clmracter wherein the air will be mixed with the oil in such proportions as 'to produce an ellicient mixture and in proportion to the blast desired.
Further objects oilt this invention will appear as the 'following speeitic description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part oil this application, and in which fIiigure l is a sectional view showing the device adapted to burning the liquid fuels. Fig'. 2 is a similar view showing the device arrangclil to burn heavy oils.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, l represents a suitable casing in which a mixing` chamber 2 is provided. lExtending trom one side ot the chamber is an internally threaded nipple 3 to which is connected a. steam supply pipe. 4. This nipple has its bore red need in size and threaded so as to receive a jet tube 5 which communicates with the steam connection Ll and passes through the mixing chamber 2 and out ot the casing through a nipple (j. The nipple (t is internally threaded and has a bore ot considerably larger diameter than the diameter ot the jet tube so as to receive a nozzle pipe 7 'in the outer end of which is threaded the spray nozzle S. This nozzle is provided with a trusto-conical inner end Sl which cominunieates with a tapered bore f1.0 extending Ilatented Ju ne 3, '1913.
Serial No. 674,900.
The casing Il is shown provided with an otl'set head l2 in the upperportion ot which is mounted a removable cleaning and limiting' plug '13. The lower portion ot the casing is tormed with an aperture l-lf having a valve seat; l5 against which the regulating valve lt is adapted to seat. The aperture lil. is also provided with an otlset threaded portion l?, the purpose ot which will be hereinatter i'leserihed. Projecting into the upper portion ot the casing adjacent the plug' 1t-t is a tnel teeding tube t8 which enters the mixing' chamber il, as shown. This tube is provided with a regulating valve tt) aud the steam pipe -lis j )rovided with a similar valve 20. W hen both o't these valves are open, oil will llow into the n'iixing' chamb A and be sucked into the nozzle l() by the jet ot. steam issuing trom the tube This suction will also cause the 'alve ttl to raise in accordance with the torce o't steam and will thereby pro- [mrt-iomitcly 'l'eed the rtajuired amount o't air to the mixing chamber in accordance with the blastl desired.
Tn Fig. 2, there is shown an ordinary smoke stack Jl in which an air feed coil Q2 is located. This coil is connected directly to the easing by a pipe 28, the plug 13 being removed 'lor this purpose. In this instance, the valve 1( is removed and a, plug' 21tscated in the otl'set threai'led portion of the aperture l-l. Thus, the mixing chamber is supplied with heated air through the pipe 23 which assists in producing' a more etlective mixture where heavy oils ot the type named are used.
What is claimed ist- '1. ."i. Atuel burner comprising a casing having a mixing chamber therein, a discharge pipe secured to the casing and having a nozzle, a steam pipe passing through the mixing' chamber nml entering the discharge pipe, means 'tor controlling the Ateed o'l steam to the discharge pipe, an oil 't'eed tube entering the casing and discharging into the mixing chamber, said casing having openings, a valve operatively mounted in one otI said openings and a, plug seated in the other opening and adapted to limit the movement ot the valve.
'2. A tuel bm'ner con'lprising a casing having :t mixing chamber therein7 fuel and In testimony whereof We aflix om1 signasteam inlet pipes leading into the casing, an tures in presence of two Witnesses.
