The object of the invention is to provide a reinforcing means whiclrwill strengthen the tile to a maximum degree, and which per- .mits of the coupling together-pf the reinforcing elements of adjoining tiles, so that the tiles will neutrally reinforce each other. The invention consists of the-features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of a tile provided-With my improved reinforcing and coupling means. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section'in perspective of the same. Fig. 8 is a horizontal transverse section through the tile. Fig. 4 is a detail section illustrating the manner of coupling adjoining tiles. Fig. 5 is a detail View of one of the short supplemental reinforcing and coupling elements.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a cylindrical tile formed of cement, clay or other plastic material. Embedded in this tile at fixed inten als around the same are reinforcing and coupling elements 2, each preferably formed of a single piece of wire. Each coupling element 2 is substantially V shaped and its arms 3 and 4 are connected at their converging ends by an elongated loop 5, while the free ends of said arms terminate in hooks (3 having anchoring eXten sions 7 The series of reinforcing and coupling elements 2 are arranged in zigzag relation,
or so that their arms cross each other, the arm 3 of one element crossing the adjacent arm 4 of, the other element at one side, thereof, while the arm 4 of the element in question crosses the arm 3 of the next adj ficent element at the opposite side thereof. By this arrangement the tile is reinforced by a trusswork series of wires, which materially increase its strength and resistance to fracture.

The construction described, in addition to providing reinforcement of maximum strength, also adapts adjoining tiles of a conduit to be easily and conveniently coupled together. It will be apparent that the. loops 7 projecting from'the end 8 of one the may be seated in the slots or recesses at the end 9 of an adjacent tile, so asto come between the pairs of coupling hooks 6 of the latter named tile, whereby upon the passage of pins 12 through the openings 11 the tiles may be coupled together. These pins or plugs 12 may be cemented or otherwise suitably secured in place, when it is not desired to provide for the discomiect-ion of the tiles.- It will, of course, be apparent. that the ends 8 of one tile from which the loops 5 project may be coupled with the, end '9 of a tile at (hie end thereof, while the end 9 of the same tile may be connected with the end 8 of another tile at the opposite end thereof, so that a series of tiles may be easily, conveniently and securely coupled together. Fig.
