Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 3, 1913.
Application filed May 4, 1912. Serial No. 695,181.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. F RED B. HOVDEK, a citizen of the United States. and a resident of Cuba, in the county of Republic and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Motor-Plow, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to agricultural implements and especially to motor operated plows.
Among the objects of the invention is to construct a motor plow whose frame is of novel construction whereby the implement is adapted for better, easier and more economical service than is common in this class of machinery.
,The invention consists in the construction and combinationof parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanyingdrawings forming a part of this specifi cation in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the frame and parts immediately associated therewith, other parts being omitted since they per so do not constitute any part of this invention; Fig. 2 is a front elevation; Fig. 3 is a transversedetail on the line 33 of Fig. 5; Fig.
4 is a similar view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 5: Fig. 5 is a side elevation indicating the plow out of use or in transportation; and Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5, but show-- in the plow in the position of operation.
eferring particularly to the drawings, I have shown a frame 10 of substantially rectangular outline. as viewed in Fig. 1, which is supported upon front and rear axles 11 and 12 by means of pairs of posts 13 and 14, and 13' and 14 pivoted to said front and rear axles respectively. Said frame is connected to the posts '13 and 13 on the left side of the machine by means of brackets13 which may hold the frame substantially snug to said posts and yet permit the frame to swing with relation to the front and rear axles by virtue of the pivots between said posts and said axles. Likewise the right side of the frame is connected to the posts 14 and 14 by means of socket pieces 14 in which said posts have a loose sliding fit. Said right side of the machine may, therefore,' be elevated by suitable means whereby either one or bothpf the wheels on the right side may operate in furrows, the wheels on the left side both run ning upon the land, and yet providing that y the frame and the operating motor carried thereby may be substantially level. As a means for adjusting the frame as above indicated, I have shown at 15 a hand lever having a link 16 connected to the front axle and operating over a segment 17 connected to the frame. Also I provide a lever 18 having a link 19 connected to the rear axle and operating over a segment 20 connected to the rear portion of the frame. By throwing the levers 15 and 18 from the position shown in Fig. 5 to that shown in Fig. 6, the right side of the frame will be lifted with relation to the right hand Wheels.
The plow 21 may be of any suitable construction and is carried by a beam 22 adjustable vertically with respect to the frame by means of a hanger 23 shown in the form of a double crank pivoted at its endsin the frame members 10 and 10, the intermediate portion of the hanger being pivotally attached by an ear 24 connected to the beam. To one end of the hanger is secured rigidly a lever 25 which operates over a segment 26 carried by the frame, and by swinging the lever 25 and hanger around the axis of the hanger, the plow may be adjusted with respect to its depth. The front end of the beam extends through a slide 27 guided for vertical reciprocation or adjustment in a yoke 28 carried rigidly by the frame and at right angles thereto. The slide 27 is adapted to be adjusted in the vertical yoke by means of a lever 29 having a link 30 extending therefrom and in connection with the slide at 27, whereby the front end of the beam may be adjusted according to the requirements and this adjustment may be effected independently of the adjustment through the lever 25 and hanger 23. The connection between the beam 22 and the slide 27 may include a pivot pin extending transversely through a longitudinal slot 22' in the beam.
The motor, the steering devices and the other operative parts may be of any suitable or Well known construction, and the details of my device may be otherwise varied to a great extent without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what Contact this patent may be obtained (or five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner or ratents,
Washington, D. C."
I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent is:
In a motor plow, the combination with front and rear axles, and supporting wheels therefor, of a rectangular frame, a pair of short vertical posts at one side of the frame and clamped thereto, a set of posts on the right side of the frame, a pair of socket pieces slidably connecting the latter posts to the frame, said posts being pivoted to the FRED B. HOUDEK.
