'nnrrnn srarns PATENT aero .ALFRED N. OLANDER, 0F SALNA, KANSAS.
WINDOWuVENTILATOR.
pecicaton of Letters Patent.
Patent-ed inne E. 1913.
Application filed November 20, 1911. Serial No. 661,303.
To fr/ laf/mm if may com'crn lie it known that l', .itnrarn N. OLANDER, a citixen oi the United States, residing at Salina. in the county ol' Saline and State of Kansas, have inrented certain ne and usetul improvements in Window-ventilators; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.
This invention relates to improvements in window' ventilators.
(lne object of the invention to provide a vVentilator of this character adapted to be applied to a window whereiiy when the window is open the air entering the saine is deflected upwardly thus preventing directdrafts. f
Another object to provide a window ventilator which may be readily applied to any-window and which will not interfere with the opening or closing thereof, thus 'permittingv the window to he opened tota greater or less extent.
A. `Further and important object of the invent-ion is in the provision of a simple, practicable, and ellicient device of the character described. whereby, the detiecting pla-te can be adjusted and held in a desired elevated position, allowing` air to treely pass under the plate and directly intro the room.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features ot' construction. and the combination and arrangement ot.' parts as will be niorelfully described and claimed. l
ln the accompanying drawings; Figure 1..
edges right singularly formed outwardly projecting attaching flanges Q which are adapted to be secured to the outer faces of the inner strips of the window frame whereby the plates are supported and projected into the room, the. lower ends of the flanges l being extended below the bottmn ot thel triangular plates. to tit. against the inner surface of a strip secured to the wind iw sill. Un the inner sides of the brackets l adjacent to their inclined outer edges are formed parallel guide flanges 3 parallel with the inclined outer edges of the brackets. The guide flanges 3 are preferably formed by bending the inner edges of the plates at right angles thereto, doubling back again to the plate, thence parallel with the plate and then again outwardly :is-shown. The lower ends of the plates l and the guide flanges 3 rest on the inner sill while 'the attaching ianges 2 are extended below the lower ends 'of the side plates and engage the offset portion of the outer edge of the inner sill as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. When the brackets l are thus arranged, an air detiecting board or plate 4 is slipped downwardly between the guide flanges 3, said ,tlanges holding the board or plate in an inclined position so 'that the air entering the window will be deflected upwardly by the boarll, thus preventing a direct draft.
By constructing and arranging the Ventilatoilj as herein shown and described the window may be opened to a greater 0r less extent, thus regulating the amount of air ventering the room and it will also be noted that the ventilator does not in anyway interic're with the operation of the wlndOW.
illy impro-ved ventilator may be attached to any form of sliding sash window wit-hout changing or altering the Window fra-Ine in any manner.
' My improved bracket may be sold as a new article of manufacture to be mounted by the buyer without requiring any skilled labor. l f
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings the construction and .Operation of the'invention will be readily underst-ood\without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted -to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as claimed. Having thus described my invention, what I claim is;
A window ventilator eomprisingstrips of inetal cut. to provide triangular shaped brackets each having its outer edge bent into the torni of an inwardly opening U-shaped guide, said bracket haring its inner edge Ibent at right angles Ato thel body of the In testimony whereof I have hereunto set bracket to provide an outwardly projecting my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- 'attaching ange, each of said flanges having nesses. an angular depending extension to permit of ALFRED N. OLANDER. its 'engagement with the inner face of the Witnesses:

ably received in the U-shaped guides. J No. W. TITUS.
