Letters Patent No. 106,338, dated August 16. 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING-SEAT FOR VEHICLES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whmnit may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE 'W'. DILLER, of Odell, in the county of Livingston and State of Illinois, have invented a newand improved Spring \Vag'on- Seat; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, inwhich- Figure 1 is an'e'nd view of a wagon, to. which a seat, whose spring is provided with my improved attachment, is applied.
Figure 2 is a perspectiveriew of the hook or attaching device, and asection of a wagon-sprin The objectof my invention is tofurnish an improved device for attaching springs of wagon-seats towagouboxes or bodies, whereby thestrain upon the springs or box shallbe greatlylessened, and also other obvious advantages obtained.
Referrihg to the drawing- A indicates a seat,,which, in this instance, is suitably secured to the semi-elliptical springs B, at the middle of their lengt-h. r The springs B are hinged at each end to a bail or cleris, O, which is connected with the device 'D by means of a rod or bolt passing througlrthe cars of aid device.
The device may be struck out or otherwise fornied from a fiat sheet of? metal, and is then bent into the form shown in fig. 2, with a straight central portion a, ears 6, and hook "i.
When properly applied, the part arests against the inner side or wall of the wagon-box, the ears support the clevis, and the hook embraces and rests on the edge or rail of the box, as in fig. 1.
This construction enables thesprings to shorten or lengthen as weight is put upon or taken from the seat, without material strain either upon the springs -or sides of the box, since the clevisturns or swings on the rod connecting it with the device D.
This arrangement alsopermits the seat to be -re-.
nioredfrom or shifted from one. part of the box to another without hindrance, difficulty, or delay.
' \Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is" t The combination of the device I) and elevis G with a wagon-seat spring, when arranged substantially as specified.
GEO. W. 'DILLER.
