Be it' known that I, JOHN R. DoNNELLY, a citizen of the United Statesq residing at Portland, county of Cumberland, State of Maine, have invented certain new and uses ful Improvements in Valves for Hydrocarbons, of uhic-h the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to valves and particularly toA valves forhydrocarbons.v I
In the burning of hydrocarbons the handling of ther fuel, either as a liquider as a vapor, involves considerable diiculty, owing to the presence of particles of unreduced or foreign matter in the fuel. especially true inV the'handling of hydrocarbon to be burned in self vaporizing torches or burners in which ythe liquid fuelis fed from a tank under an air pressure. In this practice there is a constant tendency to clog at various points in the system and particularly at the controlling valve which is depended upon to regulate the supplyof fuel to the torchor burner. It is particularly necessary in these self vaporizing torches to have them run uniformly and to avoid as far as possible any interruptions in the feed, as any inequalities in temperature or interruptions in the combustion affect the vaporization and are liable to produce carbonization and clogging in the burner and its discharge nozzles.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a\ valve capable of manipulation to overcome the clogging tendencies which have been heretofore so annoying. To this end Ihave provided a valve capable of adjustment to ne degrees of feed and havlng the possibilities of manipulation for the facile and prompt overcoming of clogging when the same occurs.
The structure and operation of my valve will'bemore fully described in the specicat-ion which follows. In this specification I' have described a particular embodiment of my invention as illustrative thereof, the same being shown in the drawings.

head 13 until the needle 19 thrusts the clot from the opening 21. This may be donev quickly and frequentl sulces to clear the clot from the pomt. f, however, the clogging persists thevneedle 19 is projected as stated above and the valve stem raised slightly on its seat. The inrush of fuel will then clear the conical point of the stem 8 of the clot and the stem 8 may be returned and the auxiliary stem 12 again raised to return the valve to its normal position in which the fuel passes through the passages 21 and 18. It will thus be seen that the valve may be quickly mani ulated to overcome any clogging and the urners may be Amaintained under a constant feed which will maintain a constant heat.
Various modifications may of course be made in the construction and operation of Amydevice without departing from the spirit' valve on its end adapte and adapte of my invention if within the limits of the appended claim. y
What I therefore claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A valve of the class described com rising a casing, said casing havingY an inta e and outlet opening, a v partition dividing said casing between said openings, and having a passage way therethrough, a valve seat formed about said passage way, a hollow valve stem in said casin having a conical to nd said seat, a longitudinal openin through the conical point of said valve an communicating with said hollow stem, transverse openings in said valve stem communicating with one side of said casing, an auxiliary valve stem threaded lwithin said rst named valve stem, and a needle on the end of said auxiliary valve stem adapted to enter the opening in the (point of said first named valve to be protruded therethrough.
