LANTETAN-GLOBE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN WV. MoCRoNn, a citizen of the Unit-ed States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of Texas, have invented new provements in Lantern-Globes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to globes and more particularly to lantern globes.
The object. of the invention is to provide a globe having a silvered surface with a protector for said surface so that the same can not be injured in any manner.
A. still further object is to provide a globe having a lens formed therein with a re- 'fiector surface coacting with the lens to produce a more effective light or, in other words, to throw stronger rays of light and to protect said reflector surface in such a manner that it can not become scarred or otherwise damaged.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which l ignre 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a similar View taken at right angles to Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional View. Fig. l is a perspective view of the protector cap removed.- Fig. 5 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale showing a modified form. Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view through the globe showing a further modification.
In the specific embodiment of the invention, as illustrated herein, 1 have shown an ordinary lantern global which is thickened on its inner face, as shown at 2, and ground to produce-a lens. Immediately opposite the lens 2, the external face of the globe is silvered, as shown at 3, to produce a reflector, and surrounding the silvered portion is an angular outstanding flange 4 which may be either threaded or provided with studs 5 to enter the bayonet slots 6 formed in the protecting cap 7. This protecting cap may be constructed of metal or glass and Specification of Letters Patent.

In the modified form shown in Fig. 5, the globe is perfectly transparent at all points and a'metal cap similar to 7, shown, provided with an interior mirror facing or coating 8. In either of these types, the mirror surface is thoroughly protected which assures longevity of the reflector surface. In the modification shown in Fig. 6,
the globe 9 is cast with an additional wall 10 separated from the wall of the globe and forming a space 11. This wall 10 is aperv tured adjacent its bottom, as shown at 12, so as to permit the insert-ion of the .material to coat the inner surface of the wall 10. This opening also permits the air contained in the space 11 to expand and contract without bursting the globe or destroying the outer wall and at the same time, is not sufliciently large to permit the ingressof any appreciable amount of dust or dirt.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new is z 1. An article of manufacture comprisinga lantern globe cast with an integral lens and an oppositely disposed externally projecting circular flange, a reflecting substance fixed to the external face of said globe within said flange and forming a reflector for said lens, said flange being formed with integral studs,
and a cap having a flange formed with bayonetslots and mounted upon the globe flange interlocking with the studs thereof.
2. An article of manufacture comprising a lantern globe cast withan integral lens, a protector carried by the globe, and a reflecting substance carried by one of the parts eX- teriorly of the globe and arranged at a diametrically opposite point to the lens, said reflecting substance being shielded by the protector.
