Description

P. H. SAUER.
AIR VALVE.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 28, 1910.

L 6- I g WITNESSES FREDERICK I-I. SAUER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
AIR-VALVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 27, 1913.
Application filed November 28, 1910. Serial No. 594,618.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK H. SAUER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in AirValves, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in radiator air valve holders and has particular reference tothat type of device utilized in connection with air valves provided with a lateral connection to said radiator and particularly with a vertically mounted valve.
One object of the invention is the providing of a locking lug having formed thereon a threaded shank adapted to engage a suitable recess in an adjoining radiator, said reception therein of an air valve neck of varying sizes.
In the following is described in connection with the accompanying drawings one embodiment of the invention the features thereof being more particularly pointed out hereinafter in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of an air valve showing with relation thereto an adjacent radiator leg, illustrating the manner in which said valve and locking lug are mounted in said radiator; Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on the line AB of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the locking and supporting lug; and Fig. 4c is a side elevation thereof.
Similar numerals of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings 1 indicates the conventional outline of a radiator provided with threaded apertures 2 and 3, aperture 2 being adapted to receive the threaded nipple 4 formingthe means of communication between the interior recess of radiator 1 and valve 5, aperture 3 being adapted to receive the threaded shank 6 of locking and supporting lug 7 Said lug 7 is substantially square to allow for the reception thereof of a hand tool or wrench for placing same in aperture 3 in radiator 1 and has out therein an offset 8 adapted to receive shoulder 9 on yoke 10 which comprises a U-shaped reception recess 11 formed therein by means of two outwardly diverging arms 12. Said lug 7 and shoulder 9 have fitted therein a screw 12 adapted to hold the shoulder 9 in oflset 8, by which means the yoke 10 is removably connected with the supporting lug 7 without disassembling any of the parts of valve 5. Valve 5 comprises a casing 13 mounted in a base 14 which has formed therewith the communicating nipple 4, said casing 13 having formed therewith a neck 16 having in turn mounted thereon a cap 17.
The main object of the invention is the providing of a holder for radiator air valves having formed thereon a yoke 10 which has formed therein between two outwardly diverging arms 12 a Ushaped recess 11 adapted to receive the neck portion of an air valve provided with a cap. This formation provides a device or a holding means open at its end permitting one portion of said holding means to be removed from its supporting structure obviating the removal of the cap 17 from the neck 16 of air valve 5. The object of this invention is the providing of a holding and locking means that may be readily disassembled in order to remove the radiator air valve from the body of the radiator without necessarily removing any individual part of the valve structure.
It is further obvious that the device may be varied in many ways without departing from the spirit of the invention.
NVhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Stat-es is A device of the character described comprising a supporting member having a threaded portion to screw into a radiator, and a solid, wrench receiving portion. with a recess at one side; together with a .U-
shaped reception member adapted to strad- V die the neck of an air valve, said reception In testimony whereof I have hereunto member having a rearwardly extending lug signed my name in the presence of two to fit Within the recess in the solid portion subscribing Witnesses.
of said supporting member, said solid por- FREDERICK H. SAUER. tion and lug having alined threaded aper- Witnesses: tures and a screw engaging therein to unite LAURA E. SMITH,
said members. G. GUINEER.
