Description
A. BABE. MACHINE FOR PRODUCING ROPES OB. THREADS. APPLIOATION FILED 06131, 1912.
Patented May 27, 1913.
PATENT @FFICE.
ALBERT BABE, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
TMACHINE FOR PRODUCING ROPES OR THREADS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 27, 1913.
Application filed October 31, 19 12. Serial No. 728,758.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT RQABE, subject of the King of Prussia, residing at- 3 Prenzlauer Allee, Berlin, Kingdom of lrnssia, Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Machine for Producing Ropes or Threads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved machine for producing ropes and threads from bands or strips supplied from suitable supply rolls or spools. and particularly from bands or strips of cellulose or paper.
According to the present invention a plurality of spools carrying the bands are. mounted upon a rotatable horizontal table in the usual manner, and the bands from these spools pass through a plurality of rotatable guide eyes and thence through a. common fixed guide eye where they are united to form the rope or thread. The core of the rope or thread is supplied from a central spool which is rotatably mounted with its axis vertical, the band from the central spool passing through a central guide eye previous to passing through the common guide-eye where the threads are united.
-My invention is based on the fact that when the end of a coiled band which is laid upon a horizontal surface, is raised vertically, the band is caused to twist and this effect takes place when the band is taken from the central spool, this band constituting the. core of the rope or thread, and a slight twist being produced in it before it. is united with the bands coming from the other spools.
In order that the invention may he morc readily understood, reference is made to the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred construction of my improved rope-making machine. Figure 1 being a side-view and Fig. 2 a plan thcreo t.
a designates a rotatable horizontal table mounted upon a vertiial spindle a and rotated from a driving shaft. f by meansof a pulley I mounted on the driving shaft and an endless rope h passing over said 'pulley and Over a wherve 1'- on the spindle'e. Mounted in suitable bearings 76 on the table. a is a plurality of spools I) b b I) having their axis horizonally arranged and being rotatable in the bearings 7c. Rotatably mounted. upon an upward extension 0 of the spindle e is a horizontal spool b, The
bands or strips from the spools Z) b b I) b iass through a corresponding series of conical guides or eyes 2% t 2 i and t respectively. mounted on a frame risecurcd to the table a to rotate therewith. The bands after passing through these conical guides unite on passing through a central super posed conical guide or eye t from whence the rope passes through a smoothing die t to the guide roller 1* from whence it passes to the winding machine.
It will be readily understood that inasmuch as no rotation of the bands takes place on their passing through the upper conical guid'ej and inasmuch as the bands pas-sing throiigh the conical guides t z t t are rotated thc bands on passing through the guide t will be wound around the core formed by the band coming from the spool I), which is slightly twisted before passing through the conical guide t, so that it will form a twisted core. over which the bands from the spools 7) Zr 71 are wound. It will also be understood that the bands from the spools: 7), if, b, and b are folded or crimped longitiulinally during their passage throngh the guides 25', t t and 25 respectively. Inasmuch as the core of the rope is twisted. the bands are capable of being twisted closer together than is usually the case.
I claim 1. A machine for producing ropes and threads comprising a rotatable member, a plurality of outer band supply rolls each rotatably mounted thereon with its axis of rotation horizontal, a central band supply roll having its axis vertical, a frame secured upon said rotatable member, a central hollow guide and outer hollow guides supported by said frame, and a uniting guide mount- 2. A machine for producing ropes and threads, comprising a rotatable horlzontal ed thereon and upon each of which a band is wound. said spools having their axis of rotation horizontal, a frame secured upon said table, a plurality of hollow guides supported by said frame. a central rotatable spool having a bandfwound thereon and having its axis of rotation vertical, and a uniting guide mounted centrally over said hollow guides.
3. A machine for producing ropes and threads comprising a rotatable spindle, a
table, a plurality of spools rotatably mounted centrally above said central hollow guide.
horizontal table secured thereon, a plurality I of rotatably mounted spools thereon and upon each of which a band is wound, said i spools having their axis of rotation hori- I zontal, a frame secured upon said table, a plurality of hollow guides supported by X saidvfranie, a central rotatable spool having a band wound thereon and mounted on said 1 spix'idle with its axis of rotation Vertical,,
and a uniting guide centrally over said hol- 10 10W guides.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
ALBERT BABE.
