p return the contact arms to their normal position, and open the circuit. This arrangement provides an absolute safe-guard against continued closing of thecircuit, so that at each operation of the finger plate, the machine is actuated to mark a check, and the parts are returned to normal positions, regardless of whether the finger plate is released immediately or not. w
- Suitable insulation is provided "on the plunger, and the several contacts, as shown, to prevent short circuiting of the current.
We claim as our invention: 1. In a check protector, the combination with a die, of a platen movable to bring a check into engagement with the die, a pivoted actuating member movable independently of the platen having one end arranged directly under the=platen so as to contact therewith and its opposite end at a point removed from theplaten, an electric circuit, an electromagnet in the circuit having connection with the actuating member at the endremoved from the platen, a switch for closing the circuit and means adapted to be actuated simultaneously with the insertion of a check for operating said switch.
2. In a check protector, the combination with a die, of a platen movable to bring a check into engagement with the die, a pivoted actuatin member movable independently of the p aten having one end arranged directly under the platen so as to contact therewith and its op osite endat a point removed from the pla en, an electric circuit, an electromagnet in the circuit having connection with the actuating member atthe end removed from-the platen, a switch for closing the circuit and means arranged in the path of the check for operating said switch. v
3. In a check protector, the combination with a die, of'a platenmovable to bring a check into engagement with the die, a pivoted member movable independently of the platen having one end arranged directly under the platen soas to contact therewith and its opposite end at a point removed from the platen, an electric circuit, an elec tromagnet in the circuitlhaving connection with the actuating member at the end re moved from the platen, a switch for closing the circuit and means for simultaneously suppglrting the check and operating said SW1 4. In a check protector, the combinationoted actuating member movable independently of the platen having one end arranged directly under the platen so as to contact therewith and its opposite end at a point removed from the platen, an electric circuit, an electromagnet' in the circuit having connection with the actuating member at the end removed from the platen, a switch for closing the circuit, and a finger plate adapted to operate said switch.
In a check protector, the combination with a die, of a platen movable to bring a check into engagement with the die, a piv oted actuating membermovable independently of the platen having one endarranged directly under the platen so as to contact therewith and its opposite end at a point removed from the platen, an electric circuit, an elect-romagnet. in the circuit having connection withthe actuating member .at the end removed from the platen, a switch for closing-the circuit and a finger plate ar ranged in the path of movementof the check and adapted tooperate said switch.
6.111 a check protector, the combination with a die, of a platen movable to bring a check into engagement with the die, an actuating member for effecting movement of the platen, an electric circuit, an electromagnet in the circuit for control-ling said actu- I l I u atm member, a switch tor closing the circuit including a pair of spring-controlled contact arms, a plunger having operative engagement withthe cont-act arms, and a finger plateadapt'ed to operate said plunger.
