A'I'TORNE Y.
GALE B. FOX, OF ST.
WRAPPER FOR LAUNDRIED SHIRTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
JOSEPH, MISSOURI.
Application filed February 24, 1911. Serial No. 610,544.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it lmown'that I, CALEB. Fox, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrappers for Laundried Shirts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had- .therein to the accompanyingdrawing.
My invention relates to improvements in wrappers for laundried shirts, the objects of which are to provide a wrapper of this class which shall be especially adapted to display the bosom of a laundried shirt, and at the same time cover the back of said shirt and the marginal portions of said bosom, which latter frequently have an uneven and to some extent unsightly surface; thereby forming a wrapper for protecting and atthe same time displaying the. contents thereof,
in heat and attractive form.
Further ohjectsare to so form and arrange the parts of said w'apper, that the same can be folded over a shirt and secured in folded position thereon with the utmost ease and rapidity, be simple in construction, substantial and extremely cheap'in cost of manufacture,
I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure lvis a front view. of the wrapper showing the parts in open position. Fig. 2 is a front view of the wrapper folded over a laundried shirt. Fig. 3 is a back view of the envelop as it appears when folded.
Referring to Fig. 1, the rectangularly formed front 1 has upper opening 2 formed therethrough; said opening l'iaving its upper end portion suitably formed at 2 to fit the backportion of neck band 13 of shirt 12, seen in Fig. 2. The lower end of said aperture is cut diagonally from side to' side of the same, on a straight line. Lower aperture or openingfi is formed throu h said front 1, leaving the diagonally (isposed strip or band i-flietween said openings, for
back 5, having two fastening slots 6 formed therethrou'gh. Said back is practically of the same length and width as front 1', and is ada Jted to be folded behind end flaps 7 and sai front for forming an even reinforcement or stiffening for the entire wrapper and a back for the same. Fastenin flap 8 is extended from the other longitudinal edge of front 1, and is adapted to'be folded behind said back. The .free edge of said fastening flap may be secured to said back by any of the old, well known detachable flap fastening means, is-shown in the drawing, in which the .free edge of flap is provided with tongue 9, formed on the free edge thereof, said tongue having a spear pointed on each of its two longitudinal edges. The inner edge of each of said projections has a notch l0 formed therein, said notch being bounded on one side by the longitudinal edge of said tongue, thus forming two anchor pointed projections adapted to be inserted) and anchored in slots 6, as seen in Fig. 3. An inscription space 1.1 is adapted to have any desired inscription placed therein, said space being formed on the lower ,margin of front 1. 1
Y The described wkrappei is preferably formed of one'piece of red paper, impervious to water. The outer surface of the front 1 is preferably printed or stenciled some darker color, or black while the band 4 and space It are unchanged and remain the original color of the paper.
While the described material is as stated, it is evident that card any other material of be used.
preferred board or the same is laid, outer side down on an ordinary table or the like, (not shown,) a shirt 12 is placed, bosom side down, oirfront 1, end tla s 7 are folded on to said shirt, after which hack 5 is folded thereon. Fastening flap 8 is folded on said back and projections 10 are respectively inserted in fastening slots 6, for securing the free edge of flaw 8 to back as seen in Fig. 3. The dcscribei flap fastening means may readily be untfastened by grasping the free end of tongue 9 and manually drawing the same toward the right and from back 8. it will be widerstood that notches 1.0 allow the tension of flap 8 (produced by the elasticity of the folded snrt beneath,) to draw tl'ze inner Patented May 27, 1913.
any desired color could.
ln applying the described wrapper to use,
projection 10 formed, 7
loo
and 3 modified in form, and be provided with a pluralityof tongues 9 with flap fastenlng means thereon without departing from the spirit of my invention, and that a transparent cover could be provided for openings 2 and 3, all of which I reserve the i right to do.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and original, and desire to secure by Letters'Patent is A'wrapper adapted to hold a laundried shirt therein, said shirt being provided with a neck band therefor, said wrapper comprising a front of rectangular shape having an upper opening formed therethrough, said upper opening having its upper end portion of suitable form to fit the back portion of said neck band andto expose the same, the
lower portion of said opening being adapted to expose the upper portion of the bosom of said shirt, said wrapper front also having a lower opening formed therethrough for exposing the lower portion of said bosom, said openings being of such form and location that a tie strip of said said bosom and between said openings; an end flap extending from each of the two transverse edges of said front and adapted to be folded backward on said shirt; a back extending from one of the longitudinal edges of said front and adapted to be folded backfront remains and extends diagonally across ward on said end flaps and said shirt, said back being practically of thesame shape and proportions as said front and having two fastening slots formed therethrough; a fastening flap extending from the other longitudinal edge of said front and adapted to have its free edge portion secured to said back.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
