a all whom 2'25 may concern Be it known that I, MARTIN OUSTAD, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Hamar, Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ignition-Controllers for Internal-Combustion Engines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or fig ures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an ignition controller for internal combustion engines and particularly for engines of-t-he kind in which the exhaust. valve is controlled by the main piston by means of an auxiliary cylinder connected with the working cylinder and the piston of which operates the exhaust valve.
In the accompanying drawing is illustrated an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view and Fig. 2 shows a detail.
The ignition controller comprises a sleeve Q mounted on the motor shaft P and provided with radially projecting arms R and S,'the angle between said arms being approximately 90". On the arm is secured an insulated plate spring Tone end of which is provided with a lug U bearing against the pointed end of the arm B, so that an electric current is closed when the outer end V of the spring passes the insulated contact piece X provided on the contact ring NV and to which the lead from the electric source of current is connected through the terminal Y the other lead being connected to the motor shaft P. Said spring T can be acted upon during the workin of the motor by an inclined lug Z on an axially slidable disk 0, (see Fig. 2) whereby the pressure of the contact lug U against the point of the arm R is adjusted. As the disk 0 is slid transversely along the shaft P the incline surface of the lug Z moves across the spring T depressing it. more or less according to the relative position of the spring with respect to the inclined surface, thereby regulating the speed I at which the-governor will act. The ring may be rotated o-ntlie shaft thereby adjusting the time of ignition. If the motor runs too fast, the hammer ll is swung outwardly by centrifugal force so that the ignition current will be interrupted and kept in-a state of interruption, until the motor has again attained its normal speed.
Claims: 1. In ignition controllers for internal combustion engines, a rotating shaft, a sleeve thereon, radially projecting arms on said sleeve, an electrically insulated plate spring mounted on one arm the free end of said spring being provided with a lug bearing against the pointed end of'the other arm, a brush connected with said spring, said brush being adapted to engage periodically an insulated contact piece one lead of the ignition current being connected With said contact piece and the other lead with the rotating shaft so that the ignition current. is closed periodically as long as the motor does not exceed a predetermined speed, the centrifugal force driving the free end of the spring out of contact with the pointed arm if the motor runs too fast, so as to interrupt the ignition current and keep it interrupted until the motor has regained its normal speed.
