when taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be` a` fnll, cle'ar, and exact description of the same, and which said `drawing constitutes part-0f this specifica- `tion, and i-representsiu-Q f Figui-e1, a sule vi w, looking toward the lcutting- `edge; r

This invention relates toA `an improvement in the article ot manufacture known as bnng-borers, the object being to produce ancheapV and durable steel b orer, provided with a gimletpont; and i :It consists in a thin or sheet-uetal pod, of conical riveted or otherwise secured.' a A is the pod or bodyof the borer,.forined from thin steel or sheet metal, the two edges brought nearly together, as seen in fig. 4, the one, a, being a salient cutting-edge, the other serving as a gauge to governV the thickness of cut, while the whole body serves as aguide, and, running to a point, d, it isthreaded, so as to make' what is known as a gimlet point.
The pod thus formed is secured to a head, B, the said head lbeing ttedto receive the pod, and the two joined together by rivets or otherwise, as seen in fig. 3.
The head is cast with openings d, through which to clear the pod, and with a socket, j, for the handle.
ThisA construction produces a cheap steel borer, the gimlet point aidingin the feeding of the borer, while its `form insures a perfectly round and smooth hole.
The head of cast metal is easily and cheaply formed, and may, if desirable, be made from malleable iron.
I claim as my invention- "As an improved article of manufacture, the hereindescribed bung-boxer, consisting of the conical body a, formed in thelnanner described, provided with a gimlet point, d, and combined with a cast-metal head, B, in the manner substantially as set forth.
