To all whom it may concern.' I Be it knownA that I, AUeUs'r HAAna'xANN, a -sub'ect of the Kingof Prussia, residing at Osna rck, Germany, haveinvented certainl new and useful Im roveinentsin'Means for do hereb declare Athe following to 'be va full, clear, an exact description of the invention.
Mv invention vrelates to improved -means for fastening the'rails to thesleepers, when iron sleepers and iron sole-plates are emrimary object of in invention is to urther avoid the risc of such cracks occurrin and to this end I now dispense also wit the hole immediately adjacent to the inner side of the rail, and arrange that the rails and their solelate are fastened to the sleepers by clamps-A aving hooked ends whichengage below ribs or beads,.these 1 AA ing provided on the sleepers also for y ing the sole-plates laterallfi',v I Eachwc amp e e i the baseof therai and.. on the other'side against aflug on the sole-plate, thisilulg .be-

` vention are' 'di'agrammatically j. represented 3 rail-hassan foiifathelotherside on .the higf b v-wa y'of exam le --in. the accompanying.
y y p -f in Figs. 3 and 4 is specially applicable to a drawing, whereinz-v f .Y
Figure -1 vis a side .elevation partly in sec tion, of the fastening device, the sleepery here being of channel-section. Fi 2.a"front elevation of the same, also part yin section.
Fig. 3 a side elevation partly in section of a second form of the device as applied to al sleeper of I-section and Fi 4 a front ele-l vation of the same, also part` y in section.
The slee er a has lateral ribs or beads a between w ich the solelate b rests, said sole-plate being provide at one end with an upwardly turned hook-o which en ages over the outside ed e d* of the base o the rail. The other en of this soleplate has a downwardly projecting pin e engaging in a.` corresponding holeV in' the top ofthe,- t e slee er;
sleeper, and thus transferring'to i the side-'thrust received by` thei-lrail. l is sole-plate has moreover, on'the-.side remote from the hook vo i and '-at a j'certain distance from the inside'edge of the*` base of the3rail,
a lug f runnin- Iparallel to theraiLl'f L 1 Tol i fastenlt e rail arid sole'- late 'Lto the side bears a ainst'theinside edgefd 'ofthe nner: edge; of
onA the sole-plate b, and which has hook- .shaped ends g1 engaging below the outwardly directed beads a on the sleeper. The center portion of the clamp has the form of an inverted loop, through which the bolt h passes. The upper portion g* of this loopyis of smaller section than the remainder in order to facilitate the two side ortions of the loo being drawn together.
he lower side of t ie clamp has ribs g2 and g? which bear aoainstthe inside edge d2 of the rail-base and3 the lug g on the sole-plate respectively. The ribs extend to the inner sides of the inverted loop and so serve to stifi'en the clam W'hen manufacturing the clamps, the hoo r-shaped ends g are placed at,a distance from one another which is greater than the distance between the extremities of the beads al. lVhen adjusting one of the clamps these hook-shaped ends *er1 will therefore pass over the beads a.
hereupon the nut h1 on the bolt li is tightenedfdowm the two sides ofthe loop and ',with'them the ends g1 of the clam being thus brought together until the said ends, v .f 'ar'eiirmly engagedy below the beads al. In wo 'illustrative embodiments `of fmy in-4 `thi'samanner thexrail vand its sole-plate beycome securely fastened to the sleeper.
--1 The 'second form of clamp as illustrated jsleeper of Isection..:The`slee er or tie has arweba2 and its headis provided with lateral ribs or beads a corresponding to thel rib'sorl beads 'a1-Fig. 2and between which thesole-plate or chair rests and by which the'char isvvprevented from lateral inovement, The only essential difference from the first form described is that the sole-plate has two pins e which engage in corres onding holes on both sides of the centra web of the sleeper. The arrangement, form and operation of the clamp are in both cases the same.
I claim 1. In means for fastening the track-rails Ato iron sleepers, the combination of a sole- `plate having at its outer end a hook engagin over the base of theI rail and at its inner en an extension having above it a lug, and below it a pin, an iron sleeper below said `sole-plate, having projections thereon and a hole engaged by said pin, and a clamp bearing against the inner edge of the base of the rail and against said lug, and havin hooklikeyends engaging over said projections.
' 2. vIn means for fastening the track-rails to iron sleepers, the combination of a soie- ,n
plate having at its outer end a hook en ing over the base of the rail 'and at its inner end an extension having-above it aging, andi below it a pin, an iron sleeper below said sole-plate, having projections thereon and a hole engaged by said pin, 'and a clamp bearl ing against the inner edge'of the b'a'se of 'thei rail and against said lug having hook-like ends engaging over said projections and being at its center portion turned up to forma loop, the side portions of Asaid lloop being bolted together.
3. In means for fastening the track-rails to iron sleepers, the combination of 'a 'sole-1 plate having at its outer'end a hook engaging over the base of the rail and at its inner end an extension havin'g above it a lug,'and below it a pin, an iron sleeper-below said sole-plate, having projections thereon and 'a hole engaged by said pin, and 'a clamp bearing against the inner edge of the base 'of the rail and against said lug having hook-like: ends engaging over said projections vand being at its center portion turned up'to forn`i a loo the side portions of said 'lo 'beingl boltec together and the top of said loop bein of a smaller section than said "sidef portions.
4. In means for fastening the track-railsto iron sleepers, the combination of a sole-I plate having at its'outer end `a hookeng'aging over the 'base-of the rail and 'at-its 'inner end an extension having above it n lug, and below it a pin, an iron sleeper below said sole-plate, having projections thereon and a hole engaged by-said in, and a elamp hav-- ing ribs at each side, t ose 'on oheside bearing against 'the inner edge ofthe base of the'. rail and those --at the other side against said z lug, and having Ahook-like ends 'engaging over said projections. 5. In means 'for fastening the track-rails;
to iron sleepers, the combination of a sole- .plate having at its outer end a hook engaging ver'the base 'ofthe -rail and at its inner end -anextension having above it a lug, and
elow it a pin, an iron s eeper below said sole-plate, having projections thereon, said projections serving to guide the sole-plate, and having a h'ole engaged by said pin, and a clamp bearing a ainst the inner edge of the base of the rail and against said lng,
and 'having hook-like ends engaging over said rejections.
6. yn means -for 'fastening the track-rails to iron sleepers, the combination of a soleplate having at its buter end a hook engaging-over the base ofthe rail and at its inner en'd an extension having above it a lug, and below it a pin, an iron sleeper below said sole-plate, having longitudinal beads thereon'and a hole engaged by said pin, and a clamp bearing against the inner edge of the base of the rail and against said lug, and having hook-like ends engaging over said beads.
7. In means for fastening the track-rails `to iron sleepers, the .combination of a sole- ;plate lhaving at its outer end a hooi; engaging over lthe base of the rail and at its inner f Iend an extension having above it aliig, and
blow it pins, an iron sleeper below said solespiate, having pro'ctions thereon and Qh'oles lengaged by sai pins, and a clamp 2bearing'against the inner edge of the base of th rail and against said lug, and having hookike ends engaging over said projections In vtestimony whereof I have signed my l:name to this specification, in the presence of Ktwo subscribing witnesses.
