Patented May' 6. 1913.
Application tiled November 18, 1912. Serial No. 732,067;
,residing at Davison, in the county of Genesce and State of Michigan, have invented cert-ain new .and useful Improvements in hence-Posts, ofwvhich the following is a specification, reference being had therein tol theA accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to fence posts, and has special reference` to the felice post consisting of two sect-ions, one of lwhich may be readily applied to the otliei' so that repairs may be quickly made and so that -the height of the fence may be increased atany time ifdesired. I n
The principal object of the invention is to improve and simplify the general construc-` tion of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a fence post having a novel forimof base member and detachable upper member.
With the above and other objects iii view, the invention consists 1n generalv of certainA novel details of construction and combina; tions of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically claimed. i
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and lfgure 1 is a side elevation ot' the fence showing'the improved posts in use therewith. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through such a felice. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through one of the posts. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 4- of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a section /on the line 5 5 of Fig. 3.
ln carrying out the objects of this'invei'ition there is provided a concrete' base10 wherein is embedded an angle bar l1 which' passes through a ring l2 adjacent the top of the base l() and similarly embedded iii the concrete. 'lhe parts just described lorni what. may be. termed the lower portion of the post and to these parts is set-.ured the upper portion of' the post, ,which consists of a body 13 foi-ined of angle iron having `a cover plate 14 formed of strap ii'on and provided at. its h'iwei end'wit'li an oll'set. portion 15 for the acc-ouiniodation of the upper part of theaugle l1. These upper and lower portions are secured together by means of boltslG and nuts 17, and the cover plate is likewise secured to the body 13 by bolts 18 and nuts 19 so-that the line wires 20 may be clamped between the cover plate and the body 13. In order to reinforce the concrete longitudinally, rods '21 are also employed which extend upward through the ring 12` the 'rods being located adjacent. each corner the cement portion of the post. By means of this construction the fence may be sti'etclied asa whole and the cover plates of the l'different posts clamped tightly to the body, thus 'preventing movement of the wires. 'Furthermore by removing the bolts 16 a different heightof upper member -may be suspended, or if necessary, these portions maybe removed for repairs or replacement. Also,reinforcing rings at the tp of the post prevent breaking of the concrete around the top. y 1 y There has thus been provided a simple and etlicient dev ice of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
I aving thus described the invention, what.
is claimed is 4ln a. device of the class described, the combination with a plurality of strands, a fence post comprising a concrete base, an angle iron extending into said base and projecting tliereabove, a second angle iron fixed upon the first angle iron, a cover plate extending alongl the side of-said second angle iron and provided with .an offset portion extending over one ila-nge of the first angle iron, means securing said first angle iron to said second angle "iron, means for holding said cover plate to said second angle iron, said plat-e adapted to engage said strands of wire for holding the same upon the second angle iron, said otlset. portion adapted to engage saitl strands for holding the same, whereby the strands may be i'ilaced so as to restupon the top portion of the base of the post an'd signature in presence of 4 two witnesses.
