To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs F. PERKETT, a citizen c f the .United States, residing at Traverse City, in the county of Grand Traverse and State of Michigan, have invented ,a new and useful Humidostat, of which the following is a specification;
The presentinvention relates to improve- .ments in humidostats, the primary object of the invention being the provision of an.
electrically operated humidostat, provided with mechanism whereby the humidostat izers, thus providing a means for throwing,
'lI1 t0 actuation the- Vaporizers when the humidity in the atmosphere is below normal will accurately measure and indicate the degree of humidity in the atmosphere and at the same time place into and out of operation vaporizers so that the air may be supplied with vapor to the desired humidity, the device. operating automatically to cut out the Vaporizers when the atmosphere is of the desired humidity, the present device being especially adapted for use in vaults,
residences and public buildings to maintain a uniform humidity atall times.
A further object of the present invention is the provision of a humidostat provided with-means actuated due to the humidity in the air tooperate a pointer in conjunction with a setting pointer, the setting pointer and the metal ofthe humidostat being connected in an electricalcircuitwith also connected therein the desired number of vaporor the desired degree, and for automatically cutting out the vaporizers when the atmosphere has been supplied with the desired amount of vapor.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter dc scribed and claimed, it being understood -that changes inthe precise embodiment of 3 I the invention herein dlsclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention.

Fig. 3 is a-sec tion taken on line 3 -3 of Fig. 1, with an electrical circuit containing the batteries and vaporizers shown in diagram and in operable relation to the humidostat. Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a circular casing, which is provided with the apertures 2, whereby the atmosphere may enter the casing to affect the actuating mechanism. The rim 3 of the casing is so formed as to carry. the main support and dial 4, while removably fitting upon the rim 3, is a rim 5 carrying the face the expansible strip 12. The other end of this strip 12 is provided with a pivoting coupling 13 which is pivotally connected to .one end of the double lever or arm 14, which as clearly shown is pivoted in the bracket 15 intermediate of its ends, said bracket 15 being connected to and depending from the under side of the plate 4. The opposite end of'the lever 14 has pivotally connected thereto, the coupling 16 of the other expansible f strip 17, while the other end of the expansible strip 17 is provided with a pivoting coupling 18 connected to the adjustable screw lever 19. The screw lever 19 is pivoted in the bracket 20 connected to and depending from the underside of the plate 4 and upon the opposite end thereof has pivotally and adjustably mounted thereupon, the milled disk 21, which is provided with an eye 22 for the connection of the flexible strip 23. This flexible strip 23 is connected as at 24, to the pointing hand arbor 25 of the humidostat,
the lower end of said hand being journaled in the bracket 26' connected to and depending from the under side of the plate 4. By this means it will be seen that any'expansion and contraction of the expansiblestrips 12 and 17 will impart a movement to the flexible connection 23 and consequently to the pointing hand arbor 25, which has placed upon the upper end thereof, above the dial 4 and under the face plate, the pointing hand 27. By this means, the degree of the humidity of the atmosphere will be indicatedby the pointer 27in combination with the dial scale,as clearly shown in Fig. 1.

An arbor 32 is journaled for rotation in the aperture 7 ,offthe glass face plate 6 and is provided with the operating milled head Upon the inner end of sald arbor 32 is carried-the pointer 34, which as beforestated is provided with the ring 35, a portion of which is incased by the segment 36 of insulation, which is connected thereto by means of the pin 37. w
The spring 28 of the pointing hand 27 is normally in contact with the ring 35 of the hand 34, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, and when riding upon the insulating segment 36, as will later appear, no electrical connection is made, but when the hand 27 is moved too far in one direction and engages the metal portion at the respective end of the segment 36, the circuit is closed to include the batteries 38, conductors 39 and 40 and the vaporizers 41. As soon, however, as the pointing hand 27 is rotated, due to the strips 12 and 17, to have its spring plate laced into contact with the insulation 36, t e circuit will be opened and the vaporizers are out out and cease operation.
In order to properly operate the humidostat, the same being electrically connected as shown in diagram, in Fig. 3, the hand 34 is placed to indicate the-desired degree of humidity that is to be maintained in the surrounding atmosphere, and aslong as the point-ing hand 27 is to the left of such indication, as shown in Fig. 1, the circuit through the batteries 38 and the Vaporizers 41 will be closed so that the Vaporizers inthe various parts of the building will be supplying the desired moisture to the atmos- .phere. Upon the movement of the hand 27 toward the pointer 34, the contact spring 28 will slide upon the insulated portion of the hand '34 and open the circuit to cut out the Vaporizers. It will thus be seen that any movement of the pointer 27 due to the decrease of the humidity in the atmosphere will immediately close the circuit containing the Vaporizers to actuate the vaporizers, and r as soon as the atmosphere has been saturated to the desired degree of humidity, that the pointer 27 will be actuated due to the expansible strips 12 and 17 to open the circuit and as before stated cut out the Vaporizers.
What is claimed is 1. A humidostat, having a casing provided with a partition carrying a dial, a removable transparent cover for the casing, an indicating hand, an arbor carried by the partition and carrying the hand, a plurality of humidity expanded strips, means for connecting one end of one strip to the partition, a lever pivoted intermediateof its ends to the partitlon'a'nd having one endpivotally connected to one end of one of the strips, said strips being connected together for coaction, and a flexible means for connecting the other end of the lever to the arbor.
2. A humidostat, having a casing provided with a partition carrying a dial, a removable transparent cover for the casing, a pointing hand, an arbor carried by the partition and carrying the hand, two humidity expanded strips, adjustable means for connecting onefend of one strip to the partition, a lever, pivoted intermediate of its ends to the partition and having its terminals pivot-ally connectedto the remaining end of the one strip and one end of the other strip, and adjustable means forficonnecting the free end of the remaining strip to the arbor.
