DEODORIZER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 6, 1913.
Application filed May 14, 191). Serial No. 561,511.
To ZZZ 107mm t may concern.'
Be it known that we, CHARLES W KEN- NEDY and JOI-IN J. Hannon, citizens of the United States, residing at Schenectady, in the county of Schenectady and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Deodorizers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in deodorizers and the object of said invention is to provide a device of this character which will be efficient in practice, simple in construction and economical to manufacture.
A further object of the invent-ion is to so construct the same that the dispensing of the deodorizing material will be occasioned by a manually operated device for compressing air.
lVith these and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that the changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.
ln the drawings: Figure 1 is a view of the device in position, Fig. 2 a sectional view taken Centrally through the same, F ig. 3 a detail view of the casing in which the deodorant co-ntaining receptacle is disposed, Fig. 4 an end view of said casing, and Fig. 5 a sectional view of the cap of the vessel and attached air valve.
In the drawings: 10 designates a casing which is provided with a plurality of bracket members 11 for attaching the same to the wall. This casing is formed of metal and is adapted to support a receptacle 12 formed of glass, there being a slot 13 in said casing for viewing the contents ofthe receptacle 12. The receptacle 12 is of the usual jar structure being provided with screw threads 14 on its neck portion. A cap 15 provided with the screw threaded flange 16 is adapted to form a cover for the receptacle 12. Arranged upon this cover is a screw threaded annular flange 26 to which is secured a cylinder 17 in which is adapted to work a piston 20, the rod 19 of said piston being adapted to extend through the end walls 0f said cylinder in order to permit thetreciprocation of the same. The piston 2O is adapted to compress air in the cylinder, there being a spring 21 interposed between 20 and the cap 15 for returning the piston after the same has been forced downwardly. A check valve 22 is arranged upon the member 15 at' a point which is incased by the cylinder 17, the normal tendency of said valve being to close the opening 23 in the said cap. lt will be seen however, that upon the piston 20 being forced against the tension of the spring 21, the same will compress sufficient air to open said valve thereby permitting the air to enter the receptacle 12. A tube 24 passes through the cap 15 and extends within the receptacle, said tube being provided with a suitable discharge nozzle 25. The cap 15 is provided with a removable plug 26 which will permit the iilling of the receptacle without removing the said cap.
In the operation the receptacle is filled with a suitable material such as extract of pine which will give forth a strong as wel] as a healthful odor. l/Vhen it is desired to spray the said fluid the plunger rod 19 is depressed thereby compressing air in the cylinder 17. The air thus compressed will enter the receptacle 12 and force a quantity of the material contained within said receptacle through the tube 24 and out of the said receptacle through the nozzle 25.
lt will be seen that a device of this character will form a very convenient means for dispensing a deodorizer, there being no necessary waste of material.
`What is claimed is:
An atomizing device for use in connection with a jar having a threaded mouth, comprising an interiorly threaded cap, an eXteriorly threaded circular upstandingflange on the upper face thereof, the cap having a central opening arranged concentrically with the said iiange, a spring-pressed valve arranged in t-he said opening', a cylinder threaded on to said flange, a piston in the cylinder, said cylinder having oppo- In testimony whereof we aifix our signasitely disposed openings near its upper end, tures, in presence of two witnesses. a spring in the Cylinder between the piston CHARLES W. KENNEDY. and the can, for holding the piston in normal JOHN J. HERRON.
