AUGUSTE BE'JLTSILAJDT,l 0E' PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANA.
ATTACHMENT FOR `VVINDOWU-SCREENS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ratentea aan ae, raie.
Application filed September 18, 191,2. Serial No. 721,009.
To all whom z' may concern.'
Be it known that l, AUGUSTE RnrrsrAD'r,
citizen oig the United States, residing atY Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State ci Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Attachments tor Window-Screens, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements 1n attachments for window screens, the object the invention being to provide an attachment for ordinary window screen which enables the latter to be positioned between the outside beads -of a window frame and prevent any entrance of lies and other 1nsects between the frame and the sash.
il further object is to provide an attachment otthis kind which securely holds the Heretoiore while it has been extremely desirable to place the screens ,between the outside beads of the window sash, so that the lower sash may be raised and lowered wlthout removing the screen, such a location of the screen has been undesirable for the reason that a space is left between the screen and the sash which adords an entrance for dies and other insects.
rl`he purpose of my attachment is to permit the screens to be placed between the outer beads prevent rattling of the screens and to exclude the flies and insects.
"W ith these and other objects in view, the
invention consists in certain novel featuresV of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more tally hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims. Y
ln the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating my improved attachment 1n position on a win ow screen, and Fig. 2 1s a :fragmentary view in vertical section through the upper and lower sashes of a window frame and through the screen and attachment, the section through the screen and attachment being taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. f
1 represents a window trame which is provided with the ordinary beads 2, 3, and t, between which the upper and lower sashes 5, and 6, respectively are mounted to slide.
7 is an ordinary adjustable screen which is positioned between the beads 3 and t, and on the upper edge oit thesereen, my improved attachment is located and comprises two angle bars 8 and 9. @ne of these angle bars is provided with longitudinal slots 10 which receives headed rivets 11 on the other bar, and permits the bars to be adjusted longitudinally relative to each other, yet
always maintained in operative relationship.
y The angle bars 8 and 9 have secured thereto strips 12 of flexible and preferably elastic material such as thin sheet rubber. rlhese strips 12 are of such a width that they bear against the lower bar of the lower sash when the latter is raised, ede'ctually closing the space between the screen and the sash, and
preventing any passage of flies and insects through this space.
rlhe bars 8 and 9 at their outer ends are provided with springs 13. -These .springs are ixed to the bars at the intermediate portions of the springs, and at vtheir ends they bear against the sides of the screen. rlhe springs at one side are bowed outwardly as shown at 1d, so that they bear against the outer bead 4. rlhese springs serve the tunetion of holding the `screen in proper position between the beads and thet valso prevent rattling of the screen whic is a very desirabley feature. l
My improved attachment can be adjusted to tit any ordinary screen, and can be readiiy positioned on the screen by kpressing the springs 11 over the ends thereof as clearly shown in'Fi 1. f
Various sllght changes might be made in vthe general form and arrangement ot partsdescribed without departing from my invention, and hence `ll do not limit m sell to the precise details set forth, but consider myseliJ atliberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim asfnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An attachment for window screens comico prising bars mounted to slide one u on the adapted to removably connect the bars to said springs at one side bowed outward the screen, substantially as described. vsulostantially as described.
3. An attachment for screens comprising In'tcstimOny whereof have signed my angle bars mounted to slide one upon the name to th 1s spec1f ca-t10n 1n the presence or" 5 otherhone of said bars having slots therein, WO SllbSCI'lblng WltllcsSeS.v
and rlvets on the other of said bars projected through the slots, exible strips sev AUGUSTE RETTSTADT cured to the edges of the bars, springs. se- Witnesses:
cured to the bars, said sprin s adapted to R. H. KRENKEL,
10 bear against opposite sides o a screen, and Cms. E. Poms.
