GILES H. POSSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CHECK ATTACHING AND DISPLAY CLIP.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GILES H. PossoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Check Attaching and Display Clips; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numbers of reference marked thereon, which form a partof this specification.
In railway trains and in some places of public amusement and elsewhere, it is cus tomary for the co nductor to give the passenger a trip check at the time of taking up the ticket, this check indicating the destination of the passenger. In practically all places of amusement such as theaters, playhouses and' the like the patrons retain the coupon seat check as it is evidence of the right to occupy the seat. In some instances the coupon or trip sheet is retained in the possession of the passenger or occupant of the seat. In other instances, it is displayed; for example, some railway cars are equipped with a holding device secured on the wall or seat back in convenient view of the conductor and in these the trip checks are secured.
It is an object of this invention to provide a holding device for trip checks and` other purposes, which may be used for any purpose in which it becomes desirable to detachably engage or support any thin article such as a card or otherwise upon the wall or support.
It is also an object of the invention to aiiord a resilient attaching device whereb-y the card or other article secured thereto is firmly held to resist -displacement from accidental causes, but permits a quick release when desired'.
The invention consists of the matters hereinafter described and more fully pointed out and defined' in the appended claims.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmentary inner side elevation of a car or the like equipped with attaching devices embodying my invention. F ig. 2 is a central vertical section taken through one of the attaching devices. Fig. 3 is a front elevation thereof.
As shown in said drawings: A, indicates Specificaton of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 16, 1911.
Patented Apr. 29, 1913.
Serial No. 602316.
the holding device as a whole, and 1, the card or trip check engaged therein.
2, indicates the wall or support to which the attaching means is Secured. Said attaching means embraces a base plate 3, which may be circular or of any desired form, and which is secured upon the wall or other convenient support by means of screws or in any suitable manner. Said base plate is centrally apertured, and extending therethrough, and in the support is a screw 4, which extends through the centrally apertured and outwardly fastened hub 5, of a resilient cup spring formed integral with said hub ,or in any suitable manner from said metal or other suitable material. Said resilient holding member, as shown, is concave on its reverse side and the periphery thereof fiares upwardly from the base of the plate, against which the under rounded face of said spring bears at a point slightly below the periphery.
As shown, the hub is provided with an internally directed fiange, against which bears a coil spring 6, the other end of which bears against the head of the screw, as shown in Fig. 2.
The operation is obvious from the con- 'struction described. The ticket collector or card from falling therefrom, but insufficient tomaterially resist removal when required.
Of course, details of the construction may be varied and I therefore do not purpose limiting this application otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
1. Attaching means for checks embracing a base plate, a cup spring, an outwardly directed relatively long sleeve integral therewith, a flange in said sleeve, a stud extending from said base plate into said sleeve, and a spring hearing against said fiange and a point on said stud.
2. A devce of the-class described comprising a resilient disk, a sleeve integral therewith, an apertured partition therein, a
stud extenc l ng through the said pa'tton In testnony Whereof I have hereunto and into the sleeve having ts head flush subscrbed my name n the presence of two With the edge theref, a spring coled about subscrbng witnesses.
the stud in the sleeve, one end hearing GILESH. POSSON. 5 against the said partton, the other against Wtnesses:
the head of the stud, adapting the disk to CHARLES W. HILLS, Jr.,
resliently contact a support for said stud. LAWRENCE REILESTEIN.
