Description

*WiLLLjIAM Yinfiel-1 0F ROCHA-ESTE Rf NEW WRI .Letters Patem- N 105,997, dated August 2, 18i0.`
` 5 IMPRQVEMENT n; membre-MACHINE.'
Thesi'leilleireferred to in these Letters Patent and melting partei `lthe same To all whom 'itfmwy concern; i i
Be it known thatI'," WILLIAMTEAL, ofthe city of l Rochester, in tliecountyof Monroean'l State of' nN ew York, have inventeda'certain new and' useful Improve ment 1n rood-Planters andiMatchers, I'of' which the following is av specification.
Nature cf theI'n/ventioiz. Y, This invention consists` in a method of producing therupward adjustmentof the cutter and the. `feedrollers-by one action, as' hereinafter described. l
l llvvemn'z'zl Description.- In the drawing-f` l `Figure 1 is an elevation, `showing my improvement applied to the cutter and the feed-rollers of a'planing" machine. i
Figure 2, a planof the'same.
Figure 3, ali-elevation of one of the cutter-bearings *cutter by oneaction, as I am aware such s` not new.
and the bar Awhich constitutes my improvement;
A representsV the cutter-head, and
. B B C 0, the feedrollers, 'connected with theplanl ing-bed D `in the usual manner.
E E are' the bearings ofi-the cutter-head.v
i hese bearings stand4 inan inclined direction,` and' rest ,in guides or ways ,a avon -the sidesotlthe -ma- `On the inside ofv each bearing is bolted, or otherwise 4rmly attached, a cross-bar, G, the extremities of wbichiexlend "outward and rest loosely under. `the boxes b b of the upper feed-rollers, thereby adiusting saidmllers upward simultaneouslyuand by the same. l actiouwith the 'cutter-head, i
This feature of thel cross-bar, combined with the cutter-bearing, constitutes' my invention.
Lain aware tbat the feedrollers and the cutter have before been simultaneously adjusted 'in planingmachines, but by a diieren't arrangement fromy mine'.
The advantages of miueare its extreme simplicity of construction and' ease of adjustment, being adapted to feed-rollers situated widely-apart. l
Another important'featnre isthat, while the connection of the'barswiththe cutter-.bearings is rigid, their connection with' thc roller-bearing or boxes b is loose or independent, so that the latter have the freedem to -rise and fall with the variation in the thickness of the stui' being dressed, `independent of the bars that rest under them.
By this4 means the cutter-head will in nowise'be.
,affected by the Vrise and fallof. the rollers, and consequently its action will beuniform and regulars I disclaimv the adjustment of the feed-rollers and What I claimfas my invention, and desire to. secure VThe cross-bars G, combined rigidly with the bear by Letters Patent, is.-
,ings 4Einf' the eutter,1an"f 1jresting loosely under the boxes of tbe feed-rollers, thereby allowing th'em a free action, as shown and described, and for `the purpose specified.
`In witness whereof `I have hereunto signed my name in the presence oft-,two subscribing witnesses.
WILLiAM TEAL.-
