` `Lenen; Patent Nm 105,989, ma August 2, 1ero.
L IMPROVEMENT IN SII'TINGjMAGHINES.
, The Schedule referred toin these Letters Patent and makingpart ofsthx? same.
13e it known that I, Geenen Smnr, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of NewYork, have invented ai new and useful Improvement in Sitting- Machine; and I do hereby declare that the follow.
4ing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use` the `same, reference being had fo the accompanying drawingI forming part of this specification'.
Myinvention relates to `n'mchines for sifting, Iand consists 1n Va certain arrangement and construction of parts toadapt the machine Yto paints. and analogous f In the accompanying drawingl Figure 1-,1'epresenis atop or plan view, with the 1 4`ignre2 is a vertical lcrosslsection ofig. 1l on the i line a: x.
' VvSimilar letters of reference indicate corresponding Y parts.
of square or rectangular form, and of suitable size.
B is a reel, consisting of a central shaft, C, lwith heads D thereon, with arms E (more or less in number) radiating from the center.
Supported on pivots in the ends'ot1 these arms are bars or rollers, F. .These rollers may be made stationary, so that they will not revolve on their pivots, if desired, but I prefer to have them loose, so that they will revolve by friet-ion on the `substance being sift-ed.l
The reel is revolved by4 means of a crank,or by steamer other power, by means ofA a pulley or gearwheels.
A is the box, which may be made ofwood or `metal,l-
Gis the bottom, (or sieve,) which is semi-cylindrical in form, and 4of an .interior diameter a vtrifle greater than the sweep or circle described by the roller F.
The sieve .is confined at each end to the headpiece .I-I, by bands and n ails or screws, as seen in the drawlng.
P The sides of the sieve are confined to the box, as
seen at I I.
The 'materialen substance to be siited is fed in through the removable top J and hopper K'.
In the mannfaetnreot' paints (what isknown ,as Paris green, for instance,) -there are lumps to' be crushed, and impurities to be removed, before the paint can `be ground. The dry paint is, therefore, sifted. '.lhe revolving reel and Abars or rollers E serve to crush the lumps and sift the paint in the same operation.
' This sieve may be employed to advantage for sifting many substances besides paint-s.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The arrangement of a reel, formed of heads D, arms E, and rollersF, to revolve within asemi-cylindrical stationary sieve, G, attached to head-pieces H, all conf structed and relatively arranged in a vessel, A, as and for lthe purpose specified. GEO. SIDEY..
