To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR S. KNIGHT, a subject'of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Supports for Incandescent-Lamp Filaments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to supports for el'ectrio incandescent lamp filaments, and it has for its object to provide a support about which a filament may be wound or wrapped and upon which it cannot readily become displaced.

In the manufacture of electric incandescent lamps, the filaments thereof are freor wound about supports therefor, the extremities of the filaments being thereafter united to the supports. In constructing lamps in this manner, however. the filaments have heretofore sometimes become detached from the supports, or displaced thereon, by sliding longitudinally'thereof, and, in order to prevent such detachment or displacement, and also in order to provide means for indicating when a suflicient portion of the filament has been wrapped or wound about the support, I provide the support with a notch or laterally bent portion at a suitable distance from the extremity thereof, the filament being wound into this notch or laterally bent portion.

At a short distance from the extremities of the leading-in wires, they are bent portions 7, which form notches into which the ends of the filament are wound, and which indicate the portions of the leading-in wires about which the filament should be Wrapped. The notches 7 also serve to prevent displacement of the end portions of the filament upon the leading-inwires during application ofthe of the filament, as shown inFig. 3, in order that the distance that the support projects laterally from the arbor may be reduced.

I claim as my invention:

1. An incandescent lamp comprising a filament. and a support therefor having an intermediate laterally bent portion, the filament embracing the support upon one side of the laterally bent portion thereof.

2. An. incandescent lamp comprising a filament, and a support therefor having an intermediate laterally bent portion, the filament embracing the support between its extremity and laterally bent portion.

3. An incandescent lamp comprising a filament, and a support therefor having an intermediate laterally bent portion, the filament embracing the support upon one side of the laterally bent portion thereof and having its extremity united thereto.

4. An incandescent lamp comprising a filament and a support therefor having an intermediate notch, the filament embracing the support at one side of the notch therein.

5. An incandescent lamp comprising a filament and a support therefor having an intermediate notch, the filament embracing the support at one side of the notch therein and having itsextremity united thereto.

6. An incandescent lamp comprising a filament and a support therefor having an intermediate notch, the filament embracing the support between its extremity and the notch therein.

7. An. incandescent lamp comprising a filament support having an intermediate laterally bent-portion, and a filament embracing the support upon one side of, and leading from the same at, the laterally bent portion.

8. An incandescent lamp comprising a filament and a support therefor having an intermediate laterally bent portion, the filament embracing the support between its extremity and the apex of the laterally bent portion.
