CLEMENS UI-ILIGH, oricnnlunrrz, GERMANY.
APPARATUS ON VEHICLES, ZFORI COLLECTING HORSE-@IDUNG;
Specification of Letterslatent;
Patented Apr, 22, 1913.
Application filed April 25,1912. Serial No. 693,186. I
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, GLEMENsUHLmI-I, a subject of the GermanzEfrnperor, and resident of Chemnitz, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus on Vehicles for Collecting Horse- Dung, of whichlthe following is a specification. a
At present, great wvalue iszset upon the quick removal of dirt from streets in order to prevent the transmission of morbid inatters therein to men or animals. Hitherto, this could only be efl'ected by sweeping and cleaning devices, which arelconnected with:
large expenditure of costs Especially the horse-dung could not be perfectlyremoved apparatus. a
\ receptacle 2, which serves 1 for the re:
ception of the horse-dung,1is removably carried by the front ends of lazy tongs 11, the rearmost; fulcrum: of which is in connection with two shafts 41 and 6 iarrangediwithin each other. The inner shaft reaches down to the lower rear member 3 with1which?it is 1 firmly connected, while the outer shaft 6 is in rigid connection with the upper rear memw ber5. Bothishafts are mounted lIlEbGELIlIIgS 14:, while the inner shaft drests further at its lower end 1in:a support 15. At their up-: *per ends, ,bothi shafts carry bevel; wheels 8 and 9 respectively, which wheels are in gear with a bevel Wheel 17, whichacanbe turned by means of aihandle 10. Upon the latter being turned to the right, member 5 is turned in same direction and member 13 in opposite direction, whereby the lazy tongsare; opened (Fig, 4). The driver of the vehicle can thereby, in case of need, advance the receptacle toward the horse for thereception of the dung. To again return the recep+ tacle, thehandle must be turnedlto the left,:
whereby the lazytongs are closed.
A sp1-ingpressed, self-openinglid on: the receptacle is closed by anabutment12, fixed on the hollow shaft 6, and kept in this position when the receptacle is dI'iLWIlIbiLCk-i I Imorder to operate the lazy tongs in two directions, whichis necessary when driving a pair, the hollow shaft 6 is fitted with two outer; projecting arms 13. The driver treads, in orderto approach the receptacle 1 to the left hand horse, on the right arm13, so that the whole apparatus is turned to the left, whereupon the lazy tongs are opened by turningthe handle 10. To attend" to the right hand horse, the operation is effected 1 in the same way by means of the left arm 13. a
I claim:
1. Apparatus on vehicles for collecting lazy tongs, a receptacle for the reception :of l thehgrse-dung removably arranged on the front :ends of said lazy tongsytwo rotary shafts arranged within each other on the 1 firmly connected with the rear ends ofsaidi lazy tongs, means to rotate said shaftsin: opposite direction from the driversseat and I thus to 1013611 or l close said lazy tongs, a:
horse-dung, comprising in combination,
vehicle in front of the drivers seat and spring'pressed self-opening lid on said receptacle, and an abutment to close said lid:
when the receptacle is not in use, substantially as and for the purpose set forth;
2.:Apparatus on vehicles for collecting; horse-dung, j comprising in combination, 1 lazy tongs, aireceptacle for the reception of the horse-dung removably arranged on thefront endslof asaid lazy tongs, two rotary shafts,
arranged within eachother on the vehicle I in front of the drivers seat and firmly; connected withthelrear ends of saidlazy; tongs, means to rotatelsaid shafts in op posite direction from the drivers seat and;
' thus to open or i close said ilazy tongs, a I ntestimony whereof I hate herennto set spring-pressed self-opening lid" onsaid" remy hand in the presence of two'sulosorihing' ceptacle5'an abutment to closeisaid lid when Witnesses.
the receptacle is not in'use, and means. to CLEMENS UHLICH. [L.$.] a 5 turn said lazytongs also in lateral ,direc- Witnesses: l tion, necessary When driving a pair substan- SIDNEY RIOHy tially as and for the purpose set forth. NAN I{0I-IL.Y.
