- ATTUR/VEYS t-he distributer in the direction of its longirtudinal axis results in inequality inthe flow of Water on the surface of the slab, parts thereof receiving more than the necessary amount andothers `receiving little and being practicallyunvvetted. y This is particularly apt to be the case When theflovv of water through the pipe 7 begins, there'being `at such time a tendency to a superabundant flow at the portion of thek distributer near Y the point of connection ofthe supply pipe.

Furthermore, evenfafter the lflovv in the pipe 7 is established there is a tendency to uneven distribution thereafter which can only bel compensated kfor in part by suitable gradua-l tion or other arrangement of the openings in the distributer, as already explained.l

The first-named tendency to uneven dis-l tribution on the slab is counteracted in my invention by delivering the Water from the distributer into a spreader chamber from .which it kmay flow to outlets spreading lthe Watenupon the slab. To further insure uniform distribution. the openings from the distributer'are arranged to direct their stream or streams -in the mannerrshown against a spreader plate Within the spreader chamber,

which plate is by preference a ,Wall of the chamber itself. k f

In the operation of this class of devices it n is ordinarily 'desirable that the supply of Water should be intermittent and of short duration but should bev somewhat prolonged upon the surface ofthe slab, and forthis reason it is preferable thatthe pipe -7 should feed into the chambers-at such a rate that the -same Will fillLor partly fill, 'in Whichr'case after ythe supply is shut off Wiater Will floW from the chamber and .be spread for some time upon the surface of the slab.

The surface vupon which thedistributer delivers the Water maybe any surface .Within the spreader chamber, but is preferably i the inner surface of a Wall thereof.'
