Elfo all whcm't may ccncem `Be it,` known that I, DEXTER CURTIS, of Chicago, in the'couhty of Cook4 and State of Illinois, have invented a. new-and useful vIzIorselcollar Cap; and I do f herebyfdcclare the following to be a full, clear, and `exact description `thereof', which willenable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains' to, make and use the same, reference being had to `the accompanying drawin'g forming part ot'- this specication.

, My invention has for its object to protect the neck of a horse frominjury, by the horse-collar, and

To this end it consists in` two curved plates of metal, `secured one upon the other, with an air-passage between them, theunder plate beng'composed of zinc r and the upper `plate of i`r\oncopper, or other suitable `lilorsefcollar` caps `have heretofore been constructed `of acurved metal top plate and a leather strip secured to theunderside of the same, "nsuch a. manner as to leave annirfpassage between them.

with the neck, it stretches to such n n extent under the weight of the' collar as to close the air-passage and prevent lthe escape of moisture. i The leather, therefore, becoming continually' moist, v is liable to chafe-the neck, rather than prevent such `injury.,` f l' I' v By constructing thelower plate of zinc, as I propose, it can neither yield, under the weight of the collar, to close i"the air-passage, nor become sticky and abraded to chafe the neck. n 'In connect-ion with this mechanical action, by which tlle lower plate is kept cool and the neck prevented from chatng, the zinc possesses medicinal qualities, by which old sores or wounds are speedily healed.

The zine plate is extended somewhat beyond the ends and sides ofthe upper plate, and bent upslightly, to rest firmly upon the liorses ncck'without cutting or galling the same.

The cap is `applied by being placed upon .the neck of a horse, and the two ends of the collar buckled together over the plate A.

For thepurpose of securing the collarfirmly to the cap, the plate A is provided upon its upperv surface with a -longitudinal strap, D, otleathei' or metal, so connected t'o saidplate as to form two or more loops,
