E. MARTIN. "FLAT IRON HEATER. APPLfOATION FILED was, 1912.

l 1 Z l I Inventor. W JO 7 by Z Y M 1 Attorfle s ENOCH MARTIN, OF SNYDER, TEXAS.
FLAT-IRON HEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 15, 1913.
Application filed August 3, 1912. Serial No. 713,185.
To all whom, it may'ooncern:
Be it known that I, ENOOI-I MARTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Snyder, in the county of Scurry and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Flat-Iron Heater, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in fiat iron heaters.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a receptacle insertible within a stove opening in which the irons to be heated are placed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a closure which will retain the heat within the receptacle.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cover being shown as removed. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a transverse section. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of a portion of the base member. Fig. 5 is a detail view showing the arrangement of the members which form the housing.
In the drawings, 10 designates the recep-- tacle which is arranged to be inserted within the stove opening. The receptacle is formed of a single piece of sheet metal, the off set end portion 11, being of a width in excess of the width of the receptacle. These oiiset portions are connected by the longitudinally disposed strips 12 which are bolted or otherwise secured tothe ofl set portions, the off set portions and the longitudinal strips 12 forming flanges which rest upon the portion of the stove adjacent the opening to support the receptacle. A rectangular housing 14 is disposed within the receptacle 10, the housing being provided at its base with flanges 15 which are secured to the base of the re-- ceptacle, the Walls of the housing 14 being spaced from the side Walls 16 of the receptacle 10. The cover 17 which is preferably formed of sheet metal is arranged to be inserted between the walls of the member 10 and the housing 15, this peculiar arrangement providing a substantially air tight receptacle.
Attention is called to the peculiar formation of the base member and the manner in which the off set ends 11 coact with strips 12 to form supporting flanges. Attention is also called to the fact that the base of the receptacle is formed of a single thickness of metal and that the portion of the receptacle which projects out of the stove opening is formed with a double thickness of metal, the cover member 17 being of such a size, that when the same is inserted to embrace the housing it will snugly engage the side walls of the same and exclude air.
The many advantages of a construction of this character will be clearly apparent as it will be noted that the same is such as may be easily and economically manufactured and that the various parts are simple in construction.
What is claimed is:
1. A sad iron heater comprising a receptacle, the walls of said receptacle belng provided with off sets, said oft sets being of a width in excess of the width of the receptacle, strips connecting the off sets of one end wall with the ofl sets of the other end wall, said strips and off sets forming a continuous flange disposed to contact with a portion of a stove adjacent the stove opening, a housing, said housing being formed with flanges which are secured to the base of the receptacle, the side and end walls of the housing being spaced from the side and end walls of the receptacle and a cover member disposed to embrace said housing.
2. A sad iron heater comprising a receptacle, the walls of said receptacle being provided with off-sets, said ot'f sets being of a width in excess of the width of the receptacle, means connecting the ofi-sets of one opening, a housing, said housing being my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature fiormerfi vlvlith fiangeslwhlich are seccilred to the in the presence of two Witnesses.
ase 0 at erecepfzic e, tie side an end Walls of the'housing being spaced from the side ENOCH MARTIN 5 and end Walls of the receptacle, and a cover WVitnesses:
member disposed to embrace said housing. W. R. RALSTON,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as GEORGE RALs'roN.
