Description
. `1 Halimi Stair/e atnt flirt.
STEPHEN P. 'MrTASKEPg 'OEPHIVLADELPHIA PENNSYLVANIA."
l l Letters Patent'No. 105,861, dated July 26, 1870.
V v IMPROVEMENT 1N Din-smacks.
l The Schedule referred to in these Lettere Patent making part of thesarne I, STEPHEN P. M. TAsKE, of the city of Philadelphiaand `State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvementsrin Opening and Closing Dies, of which the following is a specification.
` The nature of myinventionconsists of a lever having double` inclined slots, vwhi ch are' connected by meansof pins with the stocks oi' expanding dies, in4
such a lmanner that the movementof Ithe levervin one p direction expandstlredies, and a reverse motion closesY them, as hereinafter' described."
` It also consists of a peculiar' shape of the slots at their iunerend, whereby the stocks'are held securely during the cutting operation of the dies, without resorting to the usual method of fastening .by meansk of pawls. c
` 'lo enable others skilled inthe art `to which my i111-,
`provement appertains to' makeand use my inventionV I will now give a detailed description thereof'.
. `In the accompanying drawing, which 'makes a part of' this specificationy Y Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved device.
. Figure 2 is a` section attire lille El: a: of lig. 1.`
Figure 3 is anedge view.
Like letters in all the figures indicate fthe same parts. l
` l A is the bed-plate, tolwhich the stocks BBof the die-plates CG are pivoted at one end, by means of the pins a a. rlhe said pins have nuts b b, which hold the stocks B B against the bed-plate.
D is the fnlcrnmpi n,whicb projects outward from the -bedplate'A, for the connection of the lever E.v
There is a confining-nut, Lon the outer endof the pin.
The lever E has slots ff, which are inclined in refv verse directions. These slots receive the outer ends of the pins g g, which project from the expanding end of the stocks B B. p y t By moving the lever Ein the direction of the arrows, the inclined slots f j' force the pinsg g outward from the fulcrum-pin D, and the vexpanding ends of the stocks B B are thrown onward to expand the die-plates (l C. I
When the lever is' returned to the position it assumes in fig. 1, the pins gg rest in the-ends of the vslots ff, which have parallel sides at right angles to the fulcrum-piu D, and cutter-stocks B B, arranged` and operating substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
L In testimony that .the above is my invention,I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my vseal this 13th day` of June, 1870.
